A steady stream of useful, entertaining writing for film, TV, and DVD fans, July 23, 2008
This review is from: Blogcritics.org TV/Film (Kindle Edition)
If you go to movies, buy DVDs, and watch television, this is a very entertaining, useful blog. It updates several times a day with reviews, reports, commentary, and news about all of the previous, provided by an entertaining collection of writers and online critics. The material is drawn from www.blogcritics.org, also known as "Blogcritics Magazine", which also features articles on books, politics, and popular culture. But those latter topics fuel separate blogs in the "Blogcritics.org" series of Kindle blogs. In other words, you'd have to subscribe to all three or four Kindle "blogcritics.org" blogs to get all the content from the Web magazine.
I have to say this: the actual Web site is easily accessible via the (so far) free Kindle browser, so there's no real need to subscribe to one or more of the Kindle blog versions of the site to get this material. I've tried it and the Web site is perfectly readable and navigable on the Kindle. But so far I'm still paying for the Kindle blog carrying the site's TV/film articles. It's just so darned convenient to have these nicely formatted stories arriving constantly and just a click away from my Kindle home screen. But I still think I'm going to continue to do the few seconds of extra "clicking" work to read Blogcritics.org's non-film/TV articles at the Web site for free.
If you like certain recurring writers on the blog and/or Web site, readers are directed to those writers' own web sites or blogs. Most of www.blogcritics.org's writers have their own sites and blogs, from which www.blogcritics.org draws. So far, I like the variety of writers presented, ranging from enthusiastic amateurs to polished, established writers who provide a little more depth and nuance. It's a good mix.
In the end, it's up to you whether to get this material via the free Web browser or to pay for the blogs. Me, I'm doing a little of both, and that might work for you, too.
Note: Amazon frequently updates the presentation and functionality of Kindle blogs and periodicals, so as this review gets older, it may no longer accurately describe the current version of this product.
