Laura's book is timely and relevant. As the world of blogging has exploded, many bloggers feel their own world tipping out of balance into disaster. I was there - struggling daily to balance my time and still pursue my many passions, including blogging. But, truth be told, I was near quitting.

Blogger Behave was like a breath of fresh air - and a good spank on the bottom. Laura helped me get the right perspective on where my blog fits into my line of priorities, and then gave practical suggestions and direction for how to love my blog again.

Favorite chapter? "Be Naked Without Mooning the World" - giving me exactly the guidance I needed to help me write authentically AND respectfully.

Best part? Laura lives out the well behaved blogger - you can tell in her smile, talk, and walk that she has found a way to make her blogging behave and truly love her life. I've always enjoyed writing, and a few years ago--after being inspired and challenged by some particularly wonderful blogs--I decided to write a blog myself. Initially, it lacked focus and quickly fell apart. About a year later, I picked up my blog again and decided to truly give it my best shot. So, I poured everything I had into it. And darn it, it was good! I loved it. It was my baby. Except that it wasn't. I mean, I actually had two REAL babies and another on the way. Not to mention a sweet husband who could have used some of my time.

After several months of doing "well" in the blog world (from my perspective, anyway), I realized that in order to love my family well I was going to need to stop writing. It hurt my heart to put down my cyber pen, but it was hurting my heart more to see the way I was neglecting my family.

Laura spoke to my heart with her book. I actually felt validated about quitting blogging. BUT. I also felt a bit of excitement to realize that there might be a proper time and place for me to blog again. If I took up any kind of regular blogging again, I'd follow these three pieces of Laura's advice: 1) I'd seek God's direction for my blog. 2) I'd have a strict time budget for my blog. 3) I'd make my blog benefit and enrich my life instead of taking away from it.

I have just started getting more involved in my blogging experience. Blogger Behave answers many questions I didn't even know to ask. It is very helpful for someone like me who is just getting started and trying to avoid pitfalls along the way. It is also very helpful across the board to other social medias.

I'm not sure why I purchased this book, but I am glad I did! It was so insightful and transparent. It made realize why I blog. For the audience of one, Jesus. Laura is very transparent with her own life and by the end of the book I was in tears. By the time I finished, I felt like I knew Laura personally. I would highly recommend this book; she offers simple blogging/life advice not through a detailed laundry list but through her personal and refreshing family stories.

How ironic that I would end up purchasing "Blogger Behave" just days before I felt I needed to take a short break from my own blogging for some of the very reasons Laura addresses...the balance between life and blogging wasn't feeling very balanced anymore! As the world of blogging and social networking opportunities continue to expand, so do our opportunities to be distracted from what should be our real priorities; our families, our own lives, the stuff our blogs are made of.

It can be easy to forget why many of us started blogging in the first place--because we love to write, we love to communicate to the world around us about the life within us, and we hope to at least reach a small audience who is moved by our experiences and impressions of life. Laura addresses all of these things in her book. Her voice was the encouragement and inspiration I needed to keep going. She prompts her readers to evaluate why they are blogging, for whom they are blogging and how much time can actually be "afforded" to blogging...literally by setting a "budget", much like we would with our spending (such a great insight!)...Once we set a budget that is healthy for us we need to stick with it!

This book is worth the read if you need a fresh perspective and a bit of encouragement, either as someone who has been blogging for a while or for the beginner. It was a real treat to read. Laura's writing is humorous, candid, relevant honest and practical.... She talks early on about her time as a high school English teacher and it is evident that she has a gift for teaching--she carefully crafts her tips and ideas around engaging stories that help the reader to visualize what she is trying to say (like the cop car that needs to keep it's proverbial eye on us when our writing becomes lax, hasty or uninspired!).

More About the Author

Laura lives on a farm with her family where she enjoys writing, homeschooling, homesteading, and enjoying God's great creation. She's prone to write about those very things and loves the readers who journey alongside. Actually, her true love is speaking about God's ways and His Word. (Though, understandably, it usually makes her knees knock.)

Now that she and her husband have figured out one eBook, they might just get started on another!
