I read reviews on this item before purchasing it but didn't quite understand. The metal is solid-check. It holds lots of cards - check. Heavy, feels good in your hands - check. Looks good and makes a good impression - check. Stays shut and protects your business cards - NO. The problem isn't a defective unit. The problem is the design.
I expected that the lid work something like a zippo lighter. After all, the similarities in appearance are too many to discuss. The lid instead, is held "closed" through friction. If you look very carefully at the picture on Amazon, you'll see to the side opposite the hing a metal tooth coming out of the case. That tooth is ever so slightly angled so that the lid fits over it and then pulls against it. One might think of it as a sort of doorstop? Anyways, initially, the lid stays closed. However, the design always assumed that the solid hinge show absolutely no wear at all. In less than a month, the lid began to open. I'm not sure if the metal tooth became ever so slightly bent or if the hinge lost some shape.
It didn't bother me too much, as the cards within would "catch" the lid, so the cards have never spilled out. However, what does happen is that the corners of my business cards become dented.
The purpose of this product is first and foremost to protect business cards. It does not fulfill this purpose. If you don't need a business card holder, but, need something shiny and heavy to carry around in your pocket, then this item is perfect!

I have bought three of these, one as a gift. I had previously acquired a cheaper business card holder that over time was damaged in my pocket. This stainless steel one seems sturdy. The unusual method of opening has not yet broken (although I am a bit wary over time). The company seems to specialize in various steel devices. The number of cards it holds seems generous compared to a gold-plated traditional holder I have.
I'll admit it's a bit severe-looking compared to a gold or silver plated traditional holder, but I personally like the look, and I am glad to have one that so far is holding up. It's a bit larger than a regular holder which I also like... (a bit easier to keep track of).
I'll give it only four out of five because I am trying to avoid grade inflation and over time I'm not sure if the hinge will break or something .... but so-far so-good... no breaking yet, and no sense (yet) that its looks are out of place.
