Terrible!,
This review is from: Blonde Ambition (DVD)
As a fan of Jessica Simpson since her 1st single, I have to say that I am completely disappointed w/ this one & I'm surprised I stomached the entire film! Sure, she didn't do too bad in Dukes or Employee of the Month. But having a lead role isn't something she should have tried to accomplish. The plot is a good concept, but poorly written & doesn't seem to play out right. No one in this movie has any on screen chemistry what so ever. The lines are awful & have hardly an ounce of true emotion. It is just dead. The movie has no light. Jessica mainly makes strange noises & whines the entire movie, which gets annoying quite fast. Thank goodness I didn't buy this title & watched in online first! Phew. Save yourself a couple of bucks. If you want to see it because your curious, find the leaked version online or rent it for much less money. Jessica, stick to singing. You're much more accepted in that line of work. It takes a lot to disappoint a hardcore fan but... wow.

I don't think it was that bad. People have slated this film SO much yeah it has Jessica Simpson in but she has improved quite a bit from the dukes of hazard and she seems more believable as a character and actress. I didn't think it was boring it thought it had its funny moments and overall a good chick flick for men and women. Don't base your views on what other people think because everyone has different opinions to what they think is a good film. Luke Wilson was also quite good in this film and the chemistry between him and Jessica was quite good you especially feel it during the pizza seen which is also pretty funny.

Blonde Ambition,

This film is about a small town girl going to New York to surprise her fiancé, only to find that her fiancé is dumping her. She stays in New York and finds big success.
I am surprised by the negativity around most of the comments. It's true that "Blonde Ambition" is not Oscar material, but you should already know that before watching it. Jessica Simpson's character is cute and likable. The plot is actually not bad. It is funny and light hearted. I really enjoyed watching Katie and Ben being together. Unlike other romantic comedies, office politics get a big part of the film. And have I mentioned that Freddy is really hilarious? "Blonde Ambition" made me smile and I felt happy after watching it. I think it is a great brain off romantic comedy. The only complaint I have is the constant un-subtle product advertising, which gets annoying and out of place at times.

What a good date movie!,
This review is from: Blonde Ambition (DVD)
we thought this movie was very good. it was exactly what it was supposed to be, a feel good, romantic comedy. this movie had a lot of funny jokes in it. a lot better than the near porno crap that goes for comedy these days. this movie is highly underrated. and i don't understand why. a lot of funny characters. got to love anything with willie nelson in it. (who was by the way awesome at riverbend) me and my wife highly recommend this as a couples movie. if your going to watch this expecting the acting and story of ben hur or titanic , your probably not going to get it. but its a fun watch with your wife or girlfriend over takeout. i think the movie was cast well, they were nice to look at for the length of the movie. and its not a cheap production like you see in a lot of non theater released movies. i think couples or girls that just got broke up with will really enjoy this flick.

Let's not discriminate. Whether you hate or you like Jessica Simpson, the movie was all in all fairly cute.
It's a chick flick, a light romantic comedy, an ideal rental (although I wouldn't have wanted to watch this movie at the theatre). Fairly unreal, over the edge, exaggeration... but fun to watch. Predictable, but aren't all movies such as this? When we watch this kind of movie we cannot expect oscar-winning acting and complicated story lines, we should just take it as is... Blonde Ambition.

I was interested in watching this one having seen so many negative reviews prior to release. I was expecting to see such god awful acting. That I did not see.
To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised watching this film. Maybe because my expectations were so low. However, Jessica actually impressed me with her acting and having seen only one of her other films (Employee of the Month), I think she is growing as an actress and has potential. It seemed obvious to me that she put more effort into acting better (not appearing so wooden) but instead relaxing into the role or maybe it is just that she had more to work with given that this is her first lead role. Okay so the actual storyline now. Well since there are other reviews referring to this, I wont bother going over it in depth except to say that Jessica's character is a naive country girl who ends up in New York, is dumped by her boyfriend, happens to get a job in a big firm, finds out she was manipulated by one of the partners and her side kick (Penelope Ann Miller and Andy Dick) to shaft the head boss on a major deal and then tries to repair the damage. Of course all the while she falls for Love interest (Luke Wilson). Very basic and unspectacular storyline but let's face it, I don't think this was meant to be a complex love story. The film is a feel good chick flick and being so does what it says on the tin. The cast are good and work well together especially Jessica and Willie Nelson as her grandad and Rachel Leigh Cook as her cousin. So if you looking for light entertainment, this film with give you that. My only complaint really is that in some parts the script was too superficial and they could have tried to make it funnier. You won't burst out laughing throughout the film but it is humorous in general.

100 % clichés,

There's a reason this movie didn't get a wide theatrical release. Everybody has already seen it, a hundred times. There's no new ideas in "Blonde Ambition". And I don't usually expect or demand that a movie should be innovative, but it's hard for me to remember when I last saw a movie so full of clichés.
Jessica Simpson goes to New York to surprise her boyfriend. But the surprise is on her (certainly to the surprise of nobody in the audience) when she literally finds another woman in his bed. When helping her would-be-actress friend to deliver mail to some big company, the scheming female vice president of the company notices how stupid and easily manipulated she is and realizes she can use her to get the president thrown out and take his position. Meanwhile, she meets Ben who works in the mail room and fall in love with him. Simpson is miscast, looking much to plastic for an innocent small town girl, but the rest of the cast do their best with the material they've been given. Andy Dick made me laugh a few times and Penny Marshall (aunt of the director) has a nice cameo towards the end. Other than this, the movie is watchable but no more than that.

I thought critics were just picking on Jessica Simpson when "Blonde Ambition" was universally panned, but after (barely) sitting through this turkey, I conceded, and have to say this is one of the dumbest films I've watched since "Dude, Where's My Car?"
While Simpson's performance is cringe-worthy, the blame isn't entirely her's. The script, by John Cohen, Matthew Flanagan, and David McHugh, tries to combine elements of "Working Girl" and "The Dukes of Hazard", with all the finesse of a bull in a china shop. 'Clever' touches, like using Groucho Marx character names as clients, having co-star Rachael Leigh Cook ("Josie and the Pussycats") audition for a non-musical version of "Cats", and tossing in a cameo by Penny Marshall (complete with a reference to Milwaukee, the setting of "Laverne and Shirley) are dumb, rather than funny. Add to this Scott Marshall's ham-handed direction, and you have all the elements for a train wreck of a film. The sad thing is, some wonderful talent is wasted. Larry Miller manages to make the most out of a poorly-written role as Simpson's boss, but Luke Wilson and Penelope Ann Miller (who both deserve better) are reduced to grinning and mugging, as the 'true love' and 'villain'. Willie Nelson and Drew Fuller are little more than window dressing; only Andy Dick seems a perfect 'fit', as idiotic as the plot, itself! As for Jessica...if "Blonde Ambition" is any indication, she'd better stick to singing! |
