Blonde Bomb Tech,
By Kelly "Reviewer for The Sinfully Sensuous" (Littleton, Colorado) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Blonde Bomb Tech (Paperback)
Sabrina Morgan is a highly respected member of the bomb squad. She is as cool under pressure with her job as she is with her personal life. She never gets involved with anyone, and always maintains her distance until the night she found a bomb she couldn't diffuse. She got out just before the explosion, and was quickly pinned to the ground and protected from the fallout by firefighter Jake Donovan. Sabrina was mortified because now he knew one of her deepest secrets. She had been absolutely terrified of bombs since she was a small child. While in the midst of falling apart, quite out of character, her lips found Jakes.Jake Donovan has been enamored with Sabrina since the local newspaper did a story on her. He had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to finally meet her, and he couldn't have planned it any better. He knew she had a reputation of never dating anyone, but he was determined to be the exception. When she allowed his foot in the door, and showed her interest, Jake knew there was going to be something profound between them. He didn't realize just how much she was going to kick and scream going into a relationship. Everything was so difficult for her to accept, and take at face value. Sabrina didn't have a family, and meeting his was just one of the obstacles they had to overcome. Sabrina couldn't believe that she had become so attached to Jake in such a short time. When bomb threats escalated, and she was unable to diffuse them, she leaned on him more than she was comfortable with. It was revealed a crazy man with a fixation on her was setting bombs, and she had no idea why, but was determined to find out. As she and her team raced against the clock to figure out the puzzle, Jake was by her side giving her his unwavering support. Sabrina has had to deal with more in her young life than anyone should ever have to. Being ripped from the parents she adored at such a young age, and thrown into the foster system, made her the tough guarded woman she had become. Sabrina didn't know what to do with Jake. They had a powerful attraction to each other, and as much as she tried to prevent it, he broke through her defenses anyway. This is a very engaging couple that will draw you immediately into their story. Very intense suspenseful story that will keep you guessing until the very end. Recommended read!!

I LOVED this book. I have read it three times now and each time I was unable to put it down once I started reading it. I loved how strong Sabrina was but also that she had a vulnerable side. I really enjoyed the way she was able to cut a man down with just a few well placed words. I couldn't help but laugh out loud several times. I also loved the fact that Jake was willing to help hide and heal all of Sabrina's secrets and pain. They practically sizzled right off of the page with just one look at each other. I also loved the mystery of who was setting these bombs and why. I must admit that i was wrong in who the bomber was, but was happy to see that he did end up getting what he deserved in the end. I totally recommend this book to anyone who wants to read about two people who have high risk careers (firefighting and bomb tech) that save lives and don't want the other to give up the job they love because they are afraid that one day one of them might not make it home. They put their lives on the line each day for the safety of others!

The Blonde Bomb Tech,
This review is from: The Blonde Bomb Tech (Paperback)
The bomb she had tried to defuse had gone off. Sabrina Morgan had been a bomb technician for nearly five years, and she had never failed to defuse a bomb until today. Running full out, she flies unexpectedly into the arms of firefighter Jake Donovan.Jake falls in love with the passionate but emotionally scarred Sabrina. Looking to settle down and start a family, Jake pursues Sabrina. Jake is a strong, loving alpha male who has his hands full trying to subdue feisty Sabrina who believes the reason for her existence is to stop the mad bomber by defusing his bombs. The Blonde Bomb Tech is a well-paced intense story of cat and mouse between Sabrina and the bomber with the addition of sexy Jake to change Sabrina's focus to a personal life she had been missing. Lara Santiago's creative thriller brings to attention the real life dangerous jobs and the people who do them. An excellent read I really enjoyed. Rosemary reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Great beginning, but...,
By Dina "Dina" (Brazil) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Blonde Bomb Tech (Paperback)
The beginning of this book was a blast - literally.Ten ... Run! Nine ... Run Faster!! Eight ... You better move your butt!!! Seven ... Where the hell is the minimum safe distance barrier? Six ... Thank God, there's the perimeter. Jump for it. Five ... Who's that in the way? Four ... Who cares! Tackle him. Three ... Damn! Hard, lean, muscular body under me. Two ... Whoa! Hard, lean, muscular body over me. One... Boom! Sabrina Morgan, dubbed "The Blonde Bomb Tech" by the press, has never found a bomb she couldn't diffuse - until now. Used to working under pressure, her cool and no-nonsense demeanor has always dictated her professional and personal life - until she fails to diffuse a bomb for the first time in her life and her façade starts to crumble. She manages to get out of the building just before the explosion, only to find herself flattened to the ground under the protection of yummy firefighter Jake Donovan. Jake has been fascinated with Sabrina since he read the story the local newspaper did on her two monhts ago. He's still trying to find the best way to be introduced to her when fate, or better, a bomb throws her into his arms. The site of a bomb explosion isn't the most romantic place, but sparks fly (no pun intended) when Jake's and Sabrina's eyes meet. Jake is determined to pursue a relationship with Sabrina, but she's wary of getting emotionally envolved with him because... well, because she's got a lot of baggage. (I can't elaborate on it because it would be a spoiler.) When a second bomb explodes another building the next day, Sabrina and her partner Murphy wonder if there's a connection between the two bomb attacks. Their investigation uncovers not only that connection - but also an unexpected connection with Sabrina's past. A past she barely remembers. As the bomb threats escalate and she tries to find out who the bomber is and why he's targeting her, her relationship with Jake gets more serious - and more complicated, because she knows there's no future for them. Or is there? I loved, loved, loved Jake! He was the ultimate hero: strong, caring, fun, loyal, protective, understanding, trustworthy... Should I go on? Oh yes, he was also gorgeous and "hung like a stallion" (as Sabrina didn't hesitate to tell an obnoxious firefighter who was jealous of Jake.) Unlike Jake, Sabrina was a "difficult" character to love. She wasn't b!tchy or anything like that, but she spent too much time feeling sorry for herself and failing to see that Jake wasn't the kind of man who would leave her because of her "shortcomings". I understood her insecurities, but I thought she should have snapped out of it sooner than she did. I admit I was surprised when I found out who the bomber was, because I had other character in mind, but I was disappointed at the way his/her identity was revealed - I mean, he/she chose to come out for what he/she thought it would be the gran finale, but it would have been much better if Sabrina had discovered his/her identity during her investigation. This was my first read by Ms. Santiago and I can't say I was impressed with her writing. There was too much telling (with pages and pages of info dump) and not enough showing in some parts of the book, and that was jarring. For the most part, the story had a nice pacing and I liked the scenes that showed Sabrina and Murphy on the job. I don't know how accurate their technical talk was, but it seemed real and I bought it. Overall, this was only an okay read to me. I wouldn't mind reading another book by Ms. Santiago, but I'm not running to get it. |
