Second time around,

This review is from: Blondie: Live 1978 (DVD)
If your an avid Blondie fan and/or DVD collector, then chances are you already own this DVD.
This is the same performance from the Beat Club (AKA. Musik Laden) that was released several years ago with a different cover and title: "The Best of the Beat Club live: Blondie" Not the their best performance on DVD but great if your looking into early Blondie in their pre-hits era. This DVD contains a few visually enternaining numbers...the music is pretty good considering Blondie weren't considered the best band live but they play it up in this one. Very dated at almost 30 years ago but the sound and picture is exellent. From January 1978 supportign their Plastic Letters album that came out the next month. So if your looking to fill your collection get it!

Blondie Live is for Real,
By Linderov (Royal Oak, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blondie: Live 1978 (DVD)
This terrific live footage of Blondie shows the band playing a collection of songs from their first two albums, Blondie & Plastic Letters - it pre-dates their big success of Parallel Lines. Some punkers would say it shows the band at their peak. The production is raw but clean, and appears to be one long take, like what you would see if you saw them at a club. This is the ticket to see them that you might have missed back in '78! If you dig the NY punk scene, and/or small-stage rock'n roll performances in general, you will appreciate the performances Deborah Harry and the group provide in this video. It is a must-have for fans of Blondie. Not only that, it also gives a good view of a real band in it's early stages - my daughter and her friends who are into the garage band scene both as a musical genre (e.g., White Stripes, etc.), and to play for themselves, learned a lot about how a band can perform well and have presence on a small stage. Deborah Harry shows how it's done right. The performance is something like a Saturday Night Live performance from the old days. It is something completely different, and more real, than they see in videos on MTV and big-time rock productions (e.g., Rolling stones, Aerosmith, and other huge venue deals) - it's a performance that is not just good, but they can see themselves being able to try for themselves. Put this DVD on and set up for a party for any age group.

This is absolutely the best video of any group I have ever seen, period! I have lent this DVD to young bands just to inspire them! This is the one video which shows Blondie at it's absolute best, and will be immortilized forever! The Video and Audio quality is also unbelieveble for it's time. "It doesn't get any better than this"!

Do not bother to buy this DVD if you already have a DVD copy of Blondie's concert for German Radio Bremen MusikLaden Live. If you can find the original: "Blondie: the best of MusikLaden Live" 1999, EME America/Pioneer Artists. It is just a repackaging of the same concert available on several DVD releases.

YouTube Did It,

This review is from: Blondie: Live 1978 (DVD)
I saw a lot of concerts in my younger days - front row at Springsteen's 1st tour, Dire Straits' 1st U.S. tour, etc. - and many others - and now I wish I had seen this band.
YouTube did it for me; when I saw the energy and excellence of the great Deborah Harry I realized that my negative view of Blondie in 1978-1982 was my own stupid mistake. Oh well, I am now a Blondie junkie and this DVD, which is a complete "set" of 11 of their early songs with all the transitions - IOW, they play straight thru - is the real deal. Yeah, I guess you could say that they went on to bigger and better things but if you like to study the craft of rock 'n roll you will not beat this IMO. And fellas, I gotta tell you, your wife or girlfriend probably won't like this... It's the shirt I think ;^) Rock on Bad Girl, Rock on!

A Molten, exhilarating look at Blondie's top-of-the mark shot at early stardom. Who would think that a German Beat club, in front of a hundred mesmerized fans, would capture a smoldering performance by future Hall of Famers, Blondie? This runs a little over 28 minutes featuring raw, thrusting, cranking punk-rock gems from the first 2 albums alone, anticipating the golden nuggets to soon follow. Tough, tight and together, future success assured. This is the "Shea Stadium"-like glance of Blondie greatness, before they got bogged down by commercialism. Success is surely in the small, smokin' details. Hot.

This DVD of Blondie's original music videos brings back memories of the new wave scene in NYC. Fresh and original, they were and are still one of my favorite bands. Deborah Harry's clothing and hair styles were cool and fun to emulate and their music was heaven to dance to. Check it out!

Blondie was (and still is) a great band. They took the punk sensibilities of the Ramones and put classic "girl group" sounds of the 60's on top of it, thus creating a signature sound which culminated in the worldwide hit "Heart of Glass" in 1979. Nevertheless, this DVD is interesting to me because they were not superstars yet and still had that punk edge. This is amust see for Blondie fans.

This is a great DVD of "early" Blondie. Debbie is fantastic, and so is the band. This dvd contains some of their early songs. Debbie is a fantastic performer, and this dvd proves it!!! I just wish it was longer, but anything from Blondie is great!!! The approx. run time is only about 30 minutes or so, but every minute is very good. If you like Blondie, you'll like this DVD. Thanks!!!
