Great early Blondie DVD, September 16, 2002
This review is from: Blondie Live -The Best of Musikladen (DVD)
This was previously availble on VHS as "Best of Musikladen" and features a 30 minute, live television performance that Blondie did for German TV in 1977, just before the release of their second album. Deb appears in a tank top with khaki overshirt, tan shorts & matching thigh boots. Good sound & picture quality. The band does songs from the first and second album, Deb shows lots of energy and is wilder than in her later incantations that are better remembered but less inspired. Some awkward moments, like the mic chord getting stuck under an amp with Deb yanking away in earnest, add to the early charm of this rare footage.

Best live early Blondie, July 17, 2004
This review is from: Blondie Live -The Best of Musikladen (DVD)
Apparently recorded between "Plastic Letters" and "Parallel Lines", the performances are of songs from their first two albums only, just before Blondie hit it big. Nigel Harrison and Frank Infante (listed as Frank Freak in the credits) have already joined the band, but since none of the songs come from "Parallel Lines" it is safe to assume that the video was recorded just after the second album.
If the period of Blondie's albums "Blondie" and "Plastic Letters" appeal to you, then you will probably enjoy this video. Not to reveal any surprises, but the performance is rawer and more "rocking" than on other Blondie live performances I have seen. The band seems to still be having fun at this point. If you own "Blondie's Greatest Video Hits" and you enjoyed the style and energy of the video for "X Offender", then you will probably like this video. One minor annoyance is the way the credits are superimposed over the band's performance on a couple of songs. Apparently this video was lifted from the final edit of a TV show appearance.
As this video seems to be getting harder and harder to find, it may become a rarity. At the time of this review, I know of no other live Blondie video that concentrates on their early material. A must for fans who prefer Blondie's early, more punk/new wave style to their the later disco/funk style.

Plastic letters Promo, October 9, 2005
This review is from: Blondie Live -The Best of Musikladen (DVD)
This performance was taken from a german tv show where blondie performed their original songs from their 1st and 2nd albums on January 1978. Not the most entertaining show but the songs are great and the band really hounds out the music. At one moment int he show Debbie harry tries to rally up the audience but to no avail. Sound is terrific and this show is worth buying just for the rare songs performed live.
