Not at All Like the Anime However...,
This review is from: Blood+ Volume 1 (Manga) (v. 1) (Paperback)
Nevertheless of what the others have said about this particular manga, I do enjoy this version. There is definitely a different appeal to some of the characters (and the addition of some characters) but it is enjoyable. I have read the other books of this series (the four others) and I must say that personally, it does get much better later on. I do suggest this book to others. I must note that as the anime series itself is violent, so is the artwork of this book. There is also a bit of vulgar language as well.

A new spin on a great series,

This review is from: Blood+ Volume 1 (Manga) (v. 1) (Paperback)
True, it is pretty different from the anime, but I thought it was quite good. I would recommend it for anyone who is bummed that the series is over, and still cant get enough of blood plus. The basic plot elements are the same (Saya is an amnesiac Okinawa high schooler who finds out she's a monster slayer after meeting a mysterious cello player ect...) , only some of the particulars have been changed. It by no means just follows along with the episodes, it creates its own timeline that roughly coincides it. It has all the same basic plot twists, it just has a different way of getting to them. All the characters are basically the same in my opinion, with the exception of Carl, also known as the `phantom' in the anime. In the manga, he has the appearance of a bossy, sophisticated yet very foul-mouthed little boy, and seems to be less over-the-top-mentally-unbalanced than his anime alter ego, but more just straightforward evil. Van also appears as his lackey. Other than that, the characters are pretty similar to the anime. If you are expecting a continuation of Blood: the Last Vampire and are not familiar with the canonical differences between it and Blood Plus, then you may be disappointed. Personally, I recommend it to any fan of the anime. The art is well done and the translation isn't awkward, and specifically Okinawan or Japanese cultural references are usually explained. It is in right-to-left format, which I found to be a little annoying at first. I enjoyed it.

different from the anime, but still great,

While quite different from the anime in characterizations of all characters (namely, Saya is less uncertain, Kai is more helpful, Hagi is more feeling, David is less caring) and various plot points, I honestly think it makes the whole Blood+ canon richer. The art is quite nice as well, with crisp lines and lots of beautiful contrast. Not to mention, the little 4comas at the end are totally precious :)

I love this series in any form!,

If you're familiar with the Blood+ anime and enjoyed it, then I definitely recommend this manga series. The first volume takes you into Saya's life. She's seemingly your average teenage girl who has been adopted into a Japanese family's home. She has no memory of her past, but that's soon remedied as a mysterious figure from her past, Haji, finds her and awakens her powers. Chiropterans--vampiric like shapechanging monsters--are now plaguing the city and only Saya's powers can stop them. This manga is extremely action packed and violent, similar to the anime series. There is a fair bit of drama as Saya comes to grips with her fate and all of the violence and carnage that lies ahead. Her foster brother, Kai, harbors romantic feelings for her but mainly wants to look out for her wellbeing and be a supporting figure in her life. The antagonists are just as menacing as the anime series, but there are differences which makes me prefer the anime series a little more in this aspect. Volume 1 was pretty much like episode 1 of the anime, but there are only 5 volumes of the manga and 50 episodes of the anime, so I suspect a lot of plot lines will be omitted. I like the art style. The images are easy to see, which is a problem I've noticed with a decent amount and manga/manhwa I've read in the past where there is too much going on in a page, or something isn't detailed enough. I also like that they keep the original reading format, not flipping it to conform to American standards. I personally prefer to read manga in the Japanese direction. All in all, if you like action, horror, drama, and a touch of romance, I would recommend this series.

Blood+: A Great Spin on a Great Saga,
By
This review is from: Blood+ Volume 1 (Manga) (v. 1) (Paperback)
Blood+ is a manga that is very different from the anime. It has it's own spin on the tale. Yes the whole series is released now, but I am still awaiting for the conclusion to Adagio and the one volume Kowloon Nights to see where the story will go. Nevertheless. it is a great series. Now, I will review each section.CHAPTER 01 This is the only chapter in the book, as each volume is one chapter long. In this first chapter, we get a look at Saya Otonashi's normal life, going to Koza school and helping out at her dad's pub, OMORO. We also see her adopted brothers Riku and Kai Miyagusuku. Saya starts off as a regular girl, but slowly changes as things from her past start coming back to her. She feels as though she can't help anyone, let alone her family. A girl, Mao Jahana, basically forces Saya to play the lead role in Hamletta, a school play. She expects Kai to go to the play if Saya is in it. We also find out that Saya needs regular blood transfusions to keep her powers at bay. DSoon, a Chiropteran attacks her and Kai and Haji enters the fray. She finally awakens her ability to kill Chiropterans. She then realizes she has to save the world from these beasts. When she performs her play, the enemy Charles attacks her. This is continued in Volume 2. MINI COMICS A set of six comic strips are given. They are quite humorus. A NOTE FROM CHIZU HASHII Chizu Hashii, the Blood+ character designer, sends a note to the artist and author of the manga, Asuka Katsura, as well as his interpretation of Charles. Altogether, this is a great manga. Four color pages are included. I hope you found this review helpful, and this is a great addition to anyone's manga collection!

Not what I expected,
This review is from: Blood+ Volume 1 (Manga) (v. 1) (Paperback)
The description of this book is totally wrong. This book is more of a spoof of the blood+ series. It was written in Japanese first before the anime came out in Japan to get you ready for the anime. So it is totally not like the anime at all. It is suppose to be a comedy but it isn't funny at all. So if you're expecting a manga about the anime this book isn't for you. Buy the Blood+ first kiss instead.

Disappointing to say the least,

I thought it would have been more interesting knowing it is a manga and all. For those who are not much into reading novels, the manga will probably be more enjoyable. The images were not appealing at all being a manga you would think the pictures would be more detailed. It was disappointing as far as I am concerned. I prefer the novel, it has a better read and feel to it than the manga.

Blood+ Volume 1 (Blood +)I am a big fan of Blood: The Last Vampire and Blood+ the DVD. This book was a very poor version of the Blood+ DVD. It did not capture the characters' personalities well, and left me feeling bad about the story. The artwork was crude and unappealing. |
