Book Description

April 7, 2011
As for you, be fruitful and increase in number.

When a rapist stalks the nation’s capital, Detective Christina Randall tries to keep an astounding clue from going public: all the victims become pregnant.

The latest victim is teenager Daniella Connolly. Her mother, Margaret, is a doctor at CalPark Fertility Clinic. But Margaret can’t fathom the bizarre conceptions, either. Isolated in a special hospital ward, they all come to term in just one week.

Multiply on the earth and increase upon it.

Randall learns the rapes are connected to a series of missing-person cases. When a young woman disappears near CalPark — also home to a secretive research lab — suspicion falls on Margaret.

But soon, the rapist returns to claim his progeny. He is not really a he — but an “it.” Worse, the children have appetites just like papa’s. …

From the author of The Organ Donor and Eyes Everywhere comes a new type of monster, one that could spell an end to our species.

More About the Author

Matthew Warner's publishing credits span a variety of formats, including novels, short stories, screenplays, stage plays, and newspapers. His first horror novel in 2003, The Organ Donor, garnered a 5-star review from FeoAmante.com, which labeled the book a "straight-on modern classic of horror." Dramatic works include films from Darkstone Entertainment based on his screenplays, plus a radio play and a stage play premiered by community theaters in central Virginia.

His opinion column, "Author's Notes," ran for five years at HorrorWorld.org and consisted of a blend of commentary, autobiography, and tutorials about the writing craft. Guide Dog Books collected the first three years of those columns into its debut non-fiction title, Horror Isn't a 4-Letter Word: Essays on Writing & Appreciating the Genre. Warner's latest book, Blood Born, is an apocalyptic monster tale set in the Washington, DC, where he grew up.

He lives in Staunton, Virginia, with his wife, the artist Deena Warner, who illustrates for a variety of horror publishers. In 2007, they opened a print and website design business, Deena Warner Design LLC, servicing the largest fiction publishers in New York.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deserves The Highest Rating Possible May 10, 2011
Format:Paperback
I enjoyed Blood Born more than I've enjoyed any other horror novel this year...and I read at least 2 to 3 horror novels a week! I'd never heard of Matthew Warner before purchasing Blood Born, but boy, I am glad that I took a chance on him and picked this book up. Blood Born, simply put, is one fantastic horror novel!

Blood Born reads like a cross between a Jeff Strand novel and a Dean Koontz novel; it's never boring, is always one step ahead of the reader, and most importantly, it is scary as hell! The action is non stop, exciting, and exceedingly violent. The creature's are not only creepy, but are a welcome change from the typical werewolves, vampires, and zombies that seem to be a staple of every new horror novel.

Even the plot is breath of fresh air, no rehashing of horror tropes here. Something or something's, are attacking young women, violently raping them, and impregnating them. And if that is not horrific enough, these women are giving birth in a little over one week's time. And you just have to read the novel to believe what these women are pushing out, and what they do to the mothers after the delivery.

Warner's characters are also strongly written and not only do they come across as being believable, readers will find themselves identifying and bonding with them almost from the moment they are introduced.

And before anyone starts to thinking that this is just another sexist, weak woman in distress story, the hero's in this story are two of the strongest written female characters I've read in ages, and it's the men in this book that often come across as naive and foolish.

And Warner does one more thing right, he is able to get across much of the medical and scientific information the readers need to understand the plotting with out overloading us and boring us to death with it. He's done his research here, and it shows, but his spin on it is entertaining and weaved seamlessly into the plotting.

Horror World Books has done an excellent job with the publishing of this book (trade sized paperback). The font is slightly larger than normal making it an easy read on the eyes, and the paper is of a high quality, things you just don't see much anymore in non hardcover books, especially one's that cost under 16 bucks and are around 500 pages long.

If anyone asked me to make one recommendation out of this year's crop of horror novels, I would suggest they pick up Blood Born without the slightest hesitation. It's that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood Born - A Delivery of Menace and Chaos May 30, 2011
Format:Paperback
I'm not drawn to 500 page novels all that often but Matthew Warner has created a story that just demanded I turn the page. Blood Born was a terrific read! Absolutely no let up in the pace with action and dread dripping from every page. Believable characters, a nightmare vision of a new species over-running man(and woman!)kind, this was a fresh splice of horror and thriller that deserves to be read.

On the strength of this novel I'll have no hesitation picking up Matthew's next creation!

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood Born - Thrilling Horror May 30, 2011
Format:Paperback
Matthew Warner's Blood Born has everything you would want in a horror novel. It has believable characters that you can identify with and care about. It has scares galore, plus some gore, with a fearsome threat that is both novel and believable. And the story, oh the story just soars from beginning to end. Truly engrossing fare for any horror aficionado. I'll say no more-don't want to spoil it for you. Check it out. You won't be sorry.
