Book Description

November 15, 1999
How will the staunchly Christian members of a Victorian family deal with one of Christendom's most abhorrent creatures a bloodthirsty vampire?

Hannah Kristan enters the blood drinker's domain, believing her beloved husband dead. But Adrian waits, a changed man, for his grieving bride!

Angela Marshall is brought to believe. But will Christian charity save her or make her a profane communion sacrifice in the name of love?

Nathaniel Cravers, seeking to unearth his estranged family's shadowed past, becomes inextricably mired in the dark covenant that separated him from his rightful heritage!

Jonathan Cravers lives a haunted half-life with the conviction that Satan wields all power. Can love alter his self-condemning curse or will it sentence him to an even more unspeakable damnation?

God alone knows, and not even the band of stalwart Heavenly Guardians charged with watching over the humans and thwarting Satan's demonic legions are privy to His omnipotent design!

In post-Civil War Massachusetts, celestial angels watch in trepidation as Adrian Kristan returns to his birthplace to free himself and his unborn child from an old unholy pact. They know the dark power he is facing but are unable to intervene, barred by unstable faith and the demonic forces holding dominion over the inhabitants of Tall Pines.

At the center of the conflict is Jonathan Cravers, a manipulative vampire bent on self-preservation at any cost and Adrian's child is the key to his survival. However, Jonathan's fate rests in other, invisible, hands, and the more he attempts to bend lives to his will, the more control is wrested from him. Though he fights emotions that bring unbearable pain, he is drawn more deeply into a vortex of sentimentality that could be his undoing!

It is only when Angela Marshall arrives that the angels are granted entry past the diabolic sentinels to counsel the mortals Jonathan holds in his grasp. Initially horrified at discovering what he is, Angela is also fascinated, and she makes him begin to question the very basis of his existence. Even the angels are astonished to discover that Jonathan is more pawn than power at the hands of Satan's minions.

As the omnipotent forces of Good and Evil do battle, Jonathan comes to see Angela as his means to redemption if such a state is possible for him. But will her lifeblood be the required sacrifice for his salvation?

Heavenly love or Hell's fury--which holds the prevailing power?

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Becoming a published author is a lifelong dream that has finally come to fruition despite many hurdles along the way. Though Blood Covenant would be considered by most a self-published work, it is so only because of its unique nature. Editors from some of the top publishing companies were giving my agent glowing reports and positive feedback from their pre-publication readers, but marketing departments were having difficulty categorizing the work and its audience potential. I am a born-again Christian, and that would seem to preclude the combination of vampires and Christianity. However, the response from Christians who have read Blood Covenant has been unexpectedly positive. Despite some admitted reservations about the vampire theme, all said they could not put the book down until it was finished. As a writer, I find that glowing praise, indeed! One editor even referred to Blood Covenant as "a skillful cross between Anne Rice and Frank Peretti". Though I find that comparison a great honor, I hope that I have developed enough individuality of expression to become known for my own style.

As for where the final concept for Blood Covenant came from, well, only The Muse knows for sure. And probably God, since I felt very led during the final rewrite. However, it seems the Christian publishers (most, at any rate) weren't quite ready for a vampire whom it might be possible to redeem. But I'll say no more, since I don't want to give the ending away! Suffice it to say that Blood Covenant is the first in a series tentatively titled "The Cravers Chronicles". It is my belief that this series could easily be cross-marketed, as it seems to have an appeal to both Christian and secular audiences, possibly because of its unique treatment of an old story. It's for the adventurous Christian ready to explore concepts that seem impossible and the secular reader who loves a story filled with suspense, intrigue, and a dash of romance.

From the Back Cover

"I am Jonathan Cravers, master of Tall Pines." The corners of his thin mouth lifted mirthlessly. "I don't recall issuing an invitation to you, Miss Marshall."

She would have answered but for the abrupt shock of gazing into his eyes.

They locked forcefully with hers, penetrating despite their tranquil brown, and she could not look away. She discerned evil in the fathomless depths; something so foul it made her catch her breath. Never had she perceived such a powerful sense of corruption! His gaze intensified, and the brown seemed to alter to a deep, muddied red. Command reached into her reeling mind, crumbling the impulse to resist. Her indomitable will sprang instantly to the forefront but was smothered by the rubescent darkness. It was deceptively soothing as it encompassed her mind, like a tender caress, gradually crushing opposition. And within the daze were whispers; soft rushes of sound that seemed words but were too brief and faint to comprehend. The desire to succumb was more than she could defy, and she took an involuntary step forward.

It was as though with his charismatic stare he would drag the very soul from her body . . .

Is even angelic influence enough to save Angela and her helpless cousins from a power born in darkness and fueled by demonic interference?
