Much more than just a remix album,
By Marcel Lee (Detroit, Michigan (USA)) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blood On The Dance Floor: HIStory In The Mix (Audio CD)
As a DJ, I can certainly appreciate this CD. It begins with five new songs, which are actually tracks that didn't make it onto the "HIStory" album, for whatever reasons. The title track is hot with a basic formula and an old school 80's beat. It works by saving itself from mediocracy at literally the last minute. "Morphine" is a classic by any standand. A banger bursting with raw energy and emotion. Michael's anger is felt as he rips verses, over an intense industrial beat, speaking in incoherent sentence-fragments, with the help of the Andrae Crouch Singers on background. What sets this song apart from any other is the break. At about 2:48, the mood changes drastically. The beat is replaced by a peaceful orchestral arrangement (conducted by Jorge Del Barrio) in which Michael actually sings. A song within a song. Beautiful. Then all of a sudden, the listener is smacked back into reality as the first beat returns and in an emotional peak, Michael goes into a tantrum, virtually speaking in tongues. The song really is a drug of uncanny genius. "Superfly Sister" has got to be one of the hottest tracks he's ever made. It's an anti-sex message to girls, but the music suggests otherwise. It's just so funky and smooth. I can see chicks getting wild to this in the clubs. The irony is slick, and at nearly seven minutes long, he has plenty of time to finesse the track, with stylish perks and sleek ad-libs. "Ghosts", co-produced by Teddy Riley, is unique in that it's not especially out of the ordinary, yet with it's incredibly catchy hook and haunting sing-along vibe, it's an unforgettable gem. "Is It Scary", co-produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, is likely the best vocal performance I've ever heard. Based on the same theme as "Ghosts", it addresses the media and anyone who has ever made a mockery or cruel judgement of his name. As he screams out the melodious chorus at the very top of his lungs, even the most vicious hater has to be impressed. It's not only the best song on the album, but maybe the best song he's ever released. It's pure magic. The rest of the album is dance remixes of hits from the "HIStory" album. All are pulled off successfully as club joints, remixed by some of the biggest names on the club scene, including Todd Terry. All in all, I give "Blood On The Dance Floor: HIStory In the Mix" five out of five stars, with extra points for perfect song-sequencing and an interesting album cover. It's not the best Michael Jackson album, and it's not supposed to be. But it does it's job, very well.

New Songs Great/ Remixes Bad,
By Ben Klenke (Las Vegas, NV USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blood On The Dance Floor: HIStory In The Mix (Audio CD)
Okay,The new material Jackson offers on this disc is incredible. BOTDF is a great jam about a woman named Susie who Jackson meets, and then backstabs him. Morphine is simply on of Jacksons greatest acvhievements. He not only plays the guitar and drums on the track, but also did the arranging and orchestrations for it as well. This is Michael at his angriest. One of those songs to listen to after a hard day. The middle eight is particularly creepy talking about drug addiction on multiple levels. Lyrics range from outright violent to surreal (Comfortably Numb). Superfly sister is the albums groove R&B track. Overall great production and music from Jackson. Ghosts is another masterpiece. Rather than the ghosts being of the supernatural type Michael instead associates them, with his personal evils (i.e. Media, Tabloids). Fantastic music and lyrics througout. Is It scary starts with the same lyrics as Ghosts but quickly moves in an entirely different direction. Jackson attacks peoples views of him based on what a monster the tabloids have made him out to be, but, if you seek the truth about him you'll find his true amazing self. Very James Bond type rythem to the music. The remixes are.... well remixes. I've never enjoyed them. The don't show Jackson's true talent just someone ability to make a dance record out of it, so don't bother with them. The rest of the album is magic, much like Jackson himself.

Read the lyrics and you'll know why MJ died,
This review is from: Blood On The Dance Floor/ History In The Mix (MP3 Download)
Absolutely incredible that nobody notice how dangerously in pain Michael was. Yeah, it's hard to understand his words when he sings but now that I've been reading many of his lyrics it was crystal clear that he needed big time help. Morphine, They don't care about us, Ghost, Privacy, just to name a few.
UNIQUE talent. Michael, I love you more. MANY have your blood on their hands.

I Love 'Morrrrr-Pheeeene' (A FleshPiercing Masterwork)..,

...Michael is heard here spitting out lyrics like, "I ain't ya maa-maa!" and "Another swine, baby, all down the line, baby, I hate ya kind, baby" and stuff about backstabs, buzzes, drugs, razor blades, dog teeth, heart attacks and other things that can either goosebump or pierce the flesh. There's that gastapo marching beat, there's something which sounds like someones been trying to pull out the bass strings from a piano, and all the guitars (Slash and Michael) sound as if they were remixed thru a heart defibrillator...and Dr. Frankenstein is juicing up the power. The rhythm and the mood gets tenser, fiercer and incessantly more frantic--only so MJJ can refrain, "Trust in me, put all your trust in me--you're doin' Morrrrr-Pheeeene!" This madness is tickled with sound bites from the moovy "The Elephant Man". You gotta love that alone. But then, there's the Demerol interlude. And Micheal says "Relax, this won't hurt you." and "Oh god, he's taking Demerol" with that cry in his voice just like he had when he sang "She's Outta my Life". And then the tune rips back to that gastapo beat, the defibrillator guitars and the fleshpiercing vocals. And you just don't know just exactly what's happening or where you are and how you got there, what day it is, and why you feel like you feel. Just like you were kickin'....know what I mean? I tell you, it is a fabulous cut. Oh yeah, the tracks "Superfly Sister", "Ghosts" and "2 bad" (Fefugee Remix) are good, too.

the first time i took a look at this album, i was like, no way. a waste of money. but like all mj songs, you really need to listen to them to be able to judge. and boy was i wrong. blood on the dance floor is like the song billie jean in so many ways, and yet is unique in its message and composition. ya'll should check out the video for it. and superfly sister is one of the most amazing songs i have ever heard. i mean, the style he uses is just so gruff and yet personal. you think he's being random but this his private life he's singing about. ghosts and is it scary are so brutally honest and direct they make you stop and say, "whoa." and yet people say that mj is one of the most secretive people. gimme a break. everything that you need to know about this man and the scandals surrounding him is in those songs. as for the remixes, they're awesome cause the songs themselves are awesome and michael the man is totally awesome. go figure, right? that's why i give this album a 5/5. please people. do yourselves a favor and listen to some REAL music. buy this album. and you're welcome.

The album's title "Blood On The Dance Floor - HIStory In The Mix" is that way for a reason...'in the MIX' ..MIX..get it? This album is not really considered an actual full album. It was simply made to promote his HIStory tour, and some of the songs were recorded earlier but have not been released until this album. For those who criticize the album because of it's remixes, I note that it IS a REMIX album, as the title says. This is not some kinda 'hey! he released a new album! kinda thing. Anyways, this album sends a message of his part in the media's criticism, tabloids, and false rumors and canards. The 5 new songs on the album are absolutely fantastic and genius in a way.. Blood On The Dance Floor is about meeting Susie who does not appear to be the LOVEable romantic kinda girl she is, and she stabs him. It's a moral of choosing the right person and 'not judging a book by it's cover'. Morphine, now that goes under a category of it's own. A very awesome rock song the with Michael singing hard in an angry manner; sings about drug addiction and such. Superfly Sister, a great and long R&B that is enjoyable to listen to. I don't know what he's singing about here, but if someone knows, I'd appreciate telling me. Ghosts, which is the main song in his Ghosts short movie, can be considered to some as the best song on the album, where he sings about the media and tabloids that critize him, 'tell me are you the ghost of jealousy'.. Is It Scary is the song that'll keep you hypnotized under it's cool loud rythm, and MJ sings that he is not the so called eccentric person the media makes him look like. Now for the remixes. Most of the remixes are very well made. The best one is Scream Louder, which is the remix for Scream. The next best ones are 2 Bad, Money, and HIStory. As for the rest, they're pretty cool if you get used to them, but not as good as the previous mentioned ones. But again, it is and would not be right to judge the album negatively by its remixes, because the album was made especially for its remixes, as the title says already. This ablum proves Michael Jackson is the greatest, very hard working, and surely the King Of Pop. He is a hard worker, as that is seen especially in his Morphine song. If you buy the album, look at the cover 'pamphlet', open to the Morphine sectioin, and you'll see that he has put way too much effort onto this song especially. Overall, this album deserves 5 stars and more, as the remixes are nice to listen to, and the new songs are one of his best to date.

Blood On The Dance Floor: HIStory,
By David B Hill (Concord, NH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blood On The Dance Floor: HIStory In The Mix (Audio CD)
In my opinion this is a great album. It is very easy to lose yourself in the hypnotic dance rythms & beats. "Ghost" & "Is It Scary" are the best on this album. The other three new releases are very good as well. However, the two fore mentioned ones are the best. The only thing disappointing to me about the album, is the fact that there were only five songs that were new. I would still pay twice as much for half as many songs of his. I have been an avid fan of his since his "Off The Wall" days. I am indeed looking forward to his new album. I also own his "HIStory" DVD. I highly recomend this DVD. I must say that when I look at this man I feel sorry for him. The only reason I say this is because here is a person who cares about what is being done to the world and our society and the media turns around and makes a mockery out of him. I believe that Michael is one of the kindest and gentlest people on this forsaken planet, and people don't see it. One thing people must respect him for it is his ability to keep his head high in a very cruel profession. Not to mention his outstanding talent and generosity to the world. To: Michael Jackson, Keep it up, regardless of the choking media & backstabbing critics....

The greatest individual star of all times, if not at last of the last 3 decades, and a other and an other 3 to come, he is just as big as the Beatles if not bigger as he has to do it on his own.
I, along with the court of justice do believe Micheal does not have a bad bone in his body, the fact that he needs kids around him is perfectly natural, because kids are sincere, this is wat he Michael and eveyone else needs to stay in touch with reality. Thanks Michael for all the happy memories your music has brought us and hopefully will for a long time to come. Who's Bad ? Not Michael !
