Book Description

Private investigator, Mina Black, uncovers the horrible truth about the patients at Paradise Regional. Their blood is being contaminated as part of a gruesome experiment done by the Vampire Council to create a new breed that can rise during the day. Mina quickly becomes involved in a fight for survival when they decide to use her in their experiments. They believe her half-vampire blood is the key to dominating the subversive underworld and when she refuses to assist them, the Council becomes bent on getting a sample of Mina's unique blood, no matter what the cost. She has no choice but involve her partner and the local authorities, throwing them all headlong into a dark and terrifying ride full of dangerous twists and turns. Every corner is a possible trap and with time running out for her and the patients, Mina decides she must take a stand against these evil creatures before it's too late. Alliances will change and new enemies will be made as Mina fights to keep the monsters at bay, conceal the secret of her own blood and sort out the tangled shreds of her love life.

More About the Author

Even as a child, Michelle Clay wasn't afraid of the things that went bump in the night. In fact, the thought of a world where werewolves roamed and Dracula reigned king may seem like an eldritch dream to most, but was exciting to Michelle. Instead of turning on a light for comfort, she reveled in the dark, imagining the lives of what was out there roaming the night and frightening those who didn't truly appreciate how interesting the supernatural really were.

Nowadays, her visions continuously take shape as she brings life to the worlds she has imagined since childhood. The wild imaginings that often got Michelle out of, or more often into, trouble as a young girl have informed and enriched her storytelling as an adult, bringing a fresh new voice to the paranormal romance genre.

Michelle currently writes from her Texas Hill Country residence, surrounded by colonies of bats, Native American spirits, haunted frontier forts and hidden ghost towns.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, December 6, 2004
This review is from: Blood Donor (Paperback)
This book was even better than I expected! I'm not usually into the whole horror genre but the wonderful interaction of the characters (especially Mina and Rob) kept me riveted to Ms. Clay's book. I also liked the fact that not all the vampires were like you see in the movies. Not all of them are perfect or even beautiful in this book. Well done, I hope this becomes a series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood Donor, November 18, 2004

This review is from: Blood Donor (Paperback)
Mina, who realises exactly after 23 years that the Council elders have expressed their wish to use her half-human blood to become daywalkers, tells the story of how the Council of Vampires reacted to her refusal to participate and cooperate with an experiment.

The first part of "Blood Donor" sets the scene by putting certain elder Vampires in the forefront, explains the purpose and benefits of walking in the daylight. Deep friendship between Mina and Rob is the reason I enjoyed this book, because their friendship is so unconditional and true.

"Blood Donor" is filled with a mix of fiercely devastating and interesting characters like psychotic and a loner Vampire called Greylin. Here's how Mina describes Greylin: "His nose was thin and somewhat beakish, giving him the appearance of a vulture."

Michel, Jamal, Becky Mills, Mr Smythe, Teddy, Berrod are all creepy and interesting, but the most important character in the novel is Mina's friend, Robert Neal. You get the feeling that Mina is telling this story because she wants the world to believe that she tried to do the right thing, to protect Rob's feelings and friendship even though her vampirism was grinding her down.

Mina is valuable to the Council. The secret about Mina's half blood and very special abilities is just one of the reasons you want to keep turning the pages to find out what happens in "Blood Donor." But if you want to know what the Master of Council will decide and what will happen to Mina, Rob and the kidnapped humans, those who escaped the brutal experimentation in "Blood Donor," you will have to read the book!
