Book Description

Two warrior lovers separated by their allegiances--and a demonic horde...

Jessup is a scout for the Ilkasar Empire, even though it conquered his own people. His love for Tamra of Wayfare Keep is the one thing connecting him to the Empire he hates. But Tamra's loyalty is to her oaths as captain of the Keep's guard and protector of the Empire. Their relationship struggles against history and duty.

While scouting, Jessup discovers the tables are about to be turned on Ilkasar: enemies are using a blood ritual to summon invincible demons, and now they're at the head of an invading horde marching straight for Tamra's forces. The two lead an army in a fierce battle against the demons, but their soldiers are slaughtered. In the chaos, Jessup and Tamra lose one another. Tamra and her remaining forces retreat to the walled city of Madrian where she leads a last stand they cannot win, while Jessup races for magical help. But even if he arrives in time, the Empire's salvation may lie in a sacrifice that will destroy them both.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great solid read! January 26, 2012
By Tessa H
Format:Kindle Edition
This book covers an interesting twist on medieval war, perfect for any one interested in an action/romance taking place in a time similar to the Dark Ages. Tamara starts off the book as a one personality character; she's tough, self reliant, and doesn't care about what others think. As the story develops you discover various idiosyncrasies that individualize Tamara and make her a fuller and rounder character including her relationship with Jessup, her friendship with Cedrian, and her mess up family life. Over all this is a great book, especially if you like books that medieval with a twist of magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Fantasy February 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
An excellent fantasy read. With the return of a beaten army with a new force to contend with, the book moves quickly while developing the characters and the story line. It looks hopeless for the defenders as the story develops.

An interesting aspect of the book is the magic that both sides use. I guess you could call it black magic versus white magic. The use of the magic in the battles is interesting and it is continually discussed as the book reaches its climax. But even with the magic it still boils down to an individual having to decide how much they are willing to sacrifice to save their people. That is where the interesting twist comes in this book.

It is well worth a read. Tomlin and Daems have done an excellent job in writing this one.
