5.0 out of 5 stars Twisted Ending, March 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Blood Feuds (War World) (Mass Market Paperback)
Having read War World years ago it was a pleasant shock to know that I had not finished all the history of Haven that there was. Returning to the Sauron invasion centuries later, and knowing that Haven still fought back was thrilling.
I am an avid reader, and will always finish a well written sci-fi till the last period.I must admit though, that I am also a little odd. The better the book (or movie,or tv show, for that matter) the more apt I am to skip to the end and find out how it turns out. Unlike most people though, knowing the ending before completing the trip, does not detract from the journey. On the contrary, it only makes the arrival that much sweeter and more fun.
When I found out that not only, as I had not expected, did the Haveners not win, but once again they had to start over. This time though, the Saurons were a much more formidable enemy, and Haven was even worse off than the first time.( I won't completely spoil the plot).
My only regret is that I can not revist Haven centuries after this second invasion. Did the Empire of Man survive? Did the Sauron race repopulate the Universe? Did the Eye stay Open?
Until those with more talent and imagination than myself write about it, I can only wait and, hopefully see.
For those who have never read the War World series, get out there and do so. For those who have not read this addition, your loss.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOP OF THE LINE READING!!, May 6, 2001
This review is from: Blood Feuds (War World) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book years ago and it is still one of the best books I have read in my 40 years of life. The concept and storyline were so well developed and fun to read, it was a joy to get into this savage world of survival. A must read!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Plot copies Oedipus Rex, September 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Blood Feuds (War World) (Mass Market Paperback)
Like some of Stirling's other collaborative works (Children's Hour, etc), this novel is light on original plot.

It's well written, but it copies the plot from Oedipus Rex directly.

If, like me, you object to paying new money for uncredited, recycled plot, avoid this book.
