Book Description

Welcome to Iradia, where the Gaian Consortium looks the other way if enough money changes hands, and the best way to ensure a long life is to secure passage off-world...

When Miala Fels' father is murdered by a vicious crime lord, she decides the best way to get her revenge is to hack the accounts of the man responsible and bleed his hoard of ill-gotten loot dry. Her plans go awry when Mast is killed by a rival, and she ends up nursing one of his men, the notorious mercenary Eryk Thorn, back to health. Her only thought is to have Thorn help her get off-world in exchange for half of Mast's treasure. The last thing she expects is to lose her heart to him...or to have the consequences of that love change her life forever.

Review

Nobody writes feisty heroines and sexy alpha males like Christine Pope, and in this planet-hopping blend of science fiction and romance, she brings enough heat to reverse entropy.--Katherine Tomlinson, author of Toxic Reality and L.A. Nocturne

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong Science Fiction Action/Romance July 29, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I saw this book offered for free and took a chance on it even though it didn't have many reviews. I'm very glad I took the chance. I would describe the book as science fiction / action / romance book. There were some sex scenes that were over a page in length but nothing overly graphic. If you don't like some romance in your book, then you should avoid this. However, the vast majority of the book is science fiction / action.

The book opens on the planet of Iradia in the compound of a war-lord type of person called Mast. Within the opening chapter, Mast and everyone is dead with the exception of Mia and the mercenary Eryk Thorn. The first half of the book is about Mia and Eryk working to get Mast's treasure and defend the compound until they can leave. The second half of the book happens eight years later when Eryk and Mia meet up again to deal with bad people (I won't give any spoilers).

The first half of the book was extremely engaging and I couldn't put it down. The second half of the book dragged a bit in some places (once they were back on Nova Angeles) and somehow didn't hold my interest as well so I skipped around a little bit. However, overall it was a strong read and I would be happy to read something by this author again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprised...April in OR June 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I was really surprised by this ebook, it goes into great details and you can almost imagine the fight scenes and space traveling. The love story between Miala and Eryk was sweet. What I really liked about this ebook was that there was no misunderstanding between them, everything was out in the open and straight forward, Miala is a strong heroine and Eryk was a strong hero, my kind of characters!
My one small con: this story was one sided, most of this story was from Miala's side, you don't really know how Eryk feels, I guess that's the mercenary part of him, all mysterious.
This was a free download for me and I plan on checking out more from this writer, once again a very good syory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun! October 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Rip-roaring blast of a space opera! I believe men will enjoy this just as much as women. Both main characters are cold-eyed realists, not your usual sappy romantics- what a breath of fresh air. The action scenes (and there are many) are so well described you'll feel like you're watching an edge of your seat thriller. I found myself grinning and silently cheering them on at times. Read it. You'll be glad you did.

More About the Author

A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family's Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Two of her short stories have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. Her tenth novel, Dragon Rose, was published in November 2012 by Dark Valentine Press.

Christine Pope writes as the mood takes her, and so her romances include a variety of sub-genres: fantasy, science fiction, paranormal, steampunk. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection. After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor and graphic designer in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California, and in fact just returned to the town where she was born, thus disproving the theory that you can't go home again.
