Mine was red - not sure if there are others. And shipping was amazing. Ordered on the 8th, got it on the 10th.
If you need / want to test blood sugar, I recommend this device.
I didn't know that this comes with a lancing device!
This purchase came with:
1. Tiny glucose meter w/ the battery
2. Small plastic lancing device (looks cheap but works perfectly)
3. 10 strips and 10 lancets
4. The black thing to hold it all together (see the picture I submitted)
I ordered 100 strips and 100 lancets from the same brand also.
I also ordered a lancing device because I did not know that this purchase came w/ one already. I'll probably gift it to someone.
I am not diabetic, but I like checking my blood glucose so that in the future if i become pre-diabetic, I can immediately change my lifestyle and prevent myself from becoming diabetic (i.e. lose weight, or eat less sugar). I am 21, 140lbs, 5''6, male. I know I started early, but I am doing this to prevent it.
The lancing device works really well. From 1-5 needle thickness I use 2 on my fingers and i barely feel it! My trick is to squeeze my fingertip, then let the needle into it, then let go, then squeeze for 3-5 seconds for a bit of blood. The pain was almost 0.
The meter will give an ERROR if you put in the lancet on the meter and do not give it blood within a couple minutes - that lancet then becomes unreadable by the meter and must be thrown away. So, make sure your lancets are kept inside the bottle they came in and not exposed to air for long or they may become unusable.
The glucose meter fits in nicely on top of the bottle that has the lancets.
The box also comes with a small piece of paper that says that you get a free meter if you go to the Preferred Pharmacy. I have not had a chance to go but I will try. Maybe i can get another one for free which i would gift to a friend.
Overall, I am extremely happy with this! The meter, the bottle, the lancet device - all stay together!
Very good price, infact Amazon has better prices of supplies than any other drug store or place I have shopped for them.
I just want to find out now if my insurance will cover the purchases I make on line.
I will be buying strips and other supplies here again.
About the unit: The unit did not work at all properly. Maybe the unit reader or the test strips that came with it were defective (even though the date on the package showed it had a couple of years until expiration). The unit kept having error readings, or simply would not take the reading at all. It would get to the blood drop indicator or simply just shut off or have error readings. I tried 6 times (doing everything as required), and it still failed. I also tried it on my spouse to see if we could get a reading and it also had an error reading. The lancer was a bit hokey and we had to poke several times to get a small drop of blood. It is very cheap and although people seem to think it was a really good model (and I had read the reviews and also hoped it was a great purchase), it simply didn't hold up at all from the get go for me. Thankfully, it was an item fulfilled by Amazon and Amazon is letting me return it.
I am not diabetic but I wanted something to keep tabs on my blood sugar levels anyway because some members in our family are diabetic.
