A Good True Crime Book! But I've read better!,
This review is from: Blood Highway (Paperback)
This was the first book that I read from Sheila JOhnson entitled Blood Highway about a madman who kills his pregnant girlfriend, Patricia Ann Booher, and drives with her body to ALabama. There I remember his crimes as awful, the book is memorable because the author writes about the bizarre nature of his crimes which includes killing two beloved pets that were more like children to the owners. I just finished reading a recent true crime book from the same author entitled Blood Lust which I thought was more interesting than Blood Highway. Regardless the crime against Patricia Ann Booher, the major victim, is one that I will never forget. From what I remembered reading this book, she had a difficult childhood and was finally happy on becoming a mother and looked forward to it. The senseless tragedy regarding her murder and the loss of her unborn child is something that I won't forget soon. The author does give a lot of background to both the vicious murderer but not as much while she does write about Patty in a loving, caring manner. Patty's loss was a waste of valuable life! May she find peace and love in the afterlife.

Horrific details.,
This review is from: Blood Highway (Paperback)
Tragically truthful heartbreaking story of a young girl who just wanted to be loved. I do consider the book a tribute to Patty (victim) and feel Sheila (author) did a wonderful job in telling of this unacceptable crime. I truly do commend the author for the compassion shown for Patty.

Good story, weakly written.,

I don't recognize the name Sheila Johnson as a veteran True Crime author. Hopefully she will get better at writing TC - it just means she needs to do lots and lots of research and pounding the pavement for the story inside of the crime.
That said, this story is terribly horrific. This guy is just hard to imagine having managed to get this girl to fall in love with him, though the young girl does seem to be a little socially challenged in some way. The writing is very blandly done. Ms. Johnson seems to report on what she has read about the story either in court documents or other resources. I could very well have gotten the gist of the story doing the very same thing. This sort of technique dulls the involvement of the reader in the reading. Did she do any actual investigative research? Doesn't seem so to me. What real TC enthusiasts want is more hands on knowledge of the perpetrator or the victim or the families involved. I'm actually not done reading the book yet, I am in the final chapters though and I will be happy when the book is finally done so I can move on to the next story. This is not one book I will recommend since the writing is done so weakly.

Not one of my favorites because sometimes you feel that justice wasn't served. To many of these mad men who claim to be guilty but insane end up being released because some psychiatrist who think they have served enough time and 20 years down the road they are released back in the population. Someone who can murder if they don't take their medications should never be released since this seems to be a reoccurring problem with taking their meds. They decide they don't need them. To much time, money and pain for the families involved for someone who just don't care.
