As Usual, an Excellent read,

This review is from: Blood and Honor (Honor Bound, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I Spent almost 30 Years as a Navy Corpsman. At least half that time with the Corps. Mr. Griffin has been able to catch the true spirit of the Corps. As an amature historian I find this novel not only entertaining, but historically accurate. I can hardly wait for the next book in the series

Griffin does something different,

This review is from: Blood and Honor (Honor Bound, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
Instead of covering his characters over a period of many years as he usually does with his military characters, Griffin restricts himself to a relatively brief period of a few months. He also uses an original twist: World War Two covert warfare in neutral Argentina. A great read.

A large, messy but fun WWII espionage thriller,
This review is from: Blood and Honor (Honor Bound, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
Blood and Honor is, like most of W.E.B. Griffin's novels, a complex story with numerous characters and enough specific detail to firmly ground the story in a particular time and place. The time is 1943 and the place is Buenos Aires, Argentina where certain Nazis hope to secret a hoard of stolen wealth that will support them if Germany loses the war. Pitted against them are members of the American OSS including the lead character who is American on his father's side and Argentinan on his mother's. Caught in the middel of the Nazis and American spys are the local security police who are contending, among other things, with a brewing plot to depose the president and put a general in charge of the government. This plot is widely enough known so that both the Germans and the Americans have a vested interest in seeing that a general favorable to themselves is selected. Besides this, there is a personal revenge element, romance and sex and a huge cast of interesting good guys and bad guys. So, big plot, big book.It took me a while to get into this story because it takes Griffin so long to set up all the pieces. There are really several stories all going on at once that sometimes intersect and sometimes are independent. Once in the thick of things, however, it moves swiftly through its various twists and turns, all leading to a pretty satisfactory conclusion. It's not totally satisfactory because it leaves enough loose ends to allow for a sequel, and the reader would rather have them wrapped up and not have to wait. Still, this is a very entertaining book and I recommend it to any who like a good OSS vs Nazi story set in an unusual locale.

A disappointing sequel.,

Unlike most of W.E.B. Griffin's books which skillfully blend the story with historical background, 'Blood and Honor' paints a fascinating historical perspective at the expense of the story. The story line is much sketchier and less believeable than the original 'Honorbound'. I was not as caught up in the story as I usually am with Mr. Griffin's books. It is as if Mr. Griffin got caught up in the killing side of international intrique rather than exploring the full range of possibilities ans he did in 'Honorbound'.Overall, I would recommend this book the the loyal fans of Mr. Griffen or those who are looking for the details of WWII South American intrique. It is my hope that this is a bridge to future books in the series that will depend on the historical background and develop an interesting story off the background.

I really enjoyed this book as I did the first in the series. I am delighted to have found this series, I am assured of lots of good reading for a long while. And finding it late has the additional benefit of not having to wait years between books.

As a retiered Marine that has married a beautiful Argentine Woman, I read about Cletus Frade as if I were him. WEB Griffen once again weaves a tale that I cant stop reading. I have just ordered the whole series from [...] and had it sent to my Army Dog Son stationed in Africa. I have visited most of the places he talks about, I was even married in the "Our Lady of Plillar" in Recoletta. I thought Griffen's Marine Corps series was his best work and perhaps it is because of how many books there are in it. I truly believe if he were to spend as much effort on this series as he has the Corps series, that this would be just as good. I am still wondering if there was any any hidden corolation drawn between el coronel Peron and the famed Evita Peron???

I get almost annoyed that I get so involved with the characters and plots of Griffin's books.I HATE it when they end,I waited for however long it takes for the sequels.I may not like killing off the good col.Frade, but that's life, and it goes on.I care about the good Germans, like Kurt, fighting their inner battles for their own souls and survival in a world filled with the deadliest of dangers. You can't put a Griffin book down and I guess that is what it was all about. Some I have read more than once.I like the WWII books best. They put me a little in touch with the world that formed my parents lives,as he helped chase the nazis across Europe and my mother worried herself sick at home, while doing her part in the effort.

This is one of the better books I have read about the OSS operations in a theatre that is rarely considered. It lacks the impact of the first book in the series but is also a good book.
