4.0 out of 5 stars Terror Attack
There have been all kinds of approaches to novels with terrorist attacks as a plot. But none, to our knowledge, have put forward as different a tack as "Blood Island." The story begins simply enough: Matt Royal, a retired attorney who trouble always seems to find, is visited by his ex-wife, who implores him to find her missing step-daughter.

I picked this book up,at a store I work,in the advanced copy pile. I started reading it and was hooked from the first chapter. I live in the Keys and it's always exciting to read about the different places the characters end up. I just had a bit of a problem keeping track of the many characters in the book.

One would think that from this inauspicious beginning we would progress to a straightforward mystery involving a kidnapped college student or a wayward teenager. Instead we are confronted with a complicated but inventive plot that transcends the reader's ordinary expectations. Along the way we are treated to the attractions of Longboat Key and the Sarasota area of Florida, as well as the charms of Key West.

The story is fast-moving, with terse dialogue, violence and a sufficient amount of surprises to reward the reader. The conclusion may be overly dramatic, but such an approach is in keeping with the tale, and the book is recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood Island...This author is AWESOME if you love murder mysteries!, September 9, 2009
This review is from: Blood Island (Hardcover)
I HIGHLY recommend all of Terrell Griffin's books. I have been a book reader all of my life and especially love murder mysteries. Terrell's books are easy to read, fast paced and captivating. You are hooked on the first page. I never want to put his books down and then can't wait to pick it back up. I had the honor and surprise of meeting Terrell Griffin in Longboat Key, FL., before I had heard of his books. He actually gave me his first one and while I was talking to him I turned the book over and realized he had written the book. Not only is he a great author, but a very nice, down to earth person. When he says on his web site that he reads and answers his e mails, he does. If you like a good murder mystery, I urge you to order Blood Island and then look for all of his books. You will be hooked!

5.0 out of 5 stars A riveting thriller, February 9, 2009
This review is from: Blood Island (Hardcover)
Cults are not the most reasonable things to deal with. "Blood Island" follows Matt Royal, an ex-lawyer as he searches for his ex-wife's step daughter on Blood Island. Matt finds that Peggy may have been forced to become a prostitute by a crazed cult, but it seems that's not the worst of it, as even finding the cult's prostitution ring, Peggy is nowhere to be found. Matt soon finds that more than sexual exploitation could be out there when he looks deeper into the cult. "Blood Island" is a riveting thriller that'll keep a reader going all the way to the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Action Packed!, May 13, 2009
This review is from: Blood Island (Hardcover)
Matt Royal is a lawyer in FL who always seems to get into trouble of some sort. His ex-wife, Laura, contacts him. Her stepdaughter, Peggy, is missing and she needs his help to track her down. Since she's a legal adult, the police don't seem concerned. Matt tracks Peggy down to a private island in the Keys, Blood Island. The island, and a number of "questionable" businesses in the area, are all owned by the same Bahamian corporation. Matt soon discovers a hidden world of at-risk teens, drugs, cults, and prostitution. Just as Matt saves Peggy, he uncovers a terrorist plan to destroy several churches in large cities. BLOOD ISLAND is action packed from page one and keeps you hooked til the end. This is my first taste of Griffin's work and I hope to read more of his work in the near future!

4.0 out of 5 stars Blood Island, January 18, 2009
This review is from: Blood Island (Hardcover)
Certainly not living the life he had planned, Matt Royal has learned to roll with the punches. As a semi-retired lawyer, he spends his days enjoying his friends; making his home in Longboat Key, a small island off the southwest coast of Florida. His life, though never boring, takes a turn when his ex-wife, the love of his life, contacts him in an emergency. Her stepdaughter has vanished. With assistance from his friends and associates, Matt sets out on the hunt and uncovers a nightmare that no one could have prepared for.

Blood Island moves at break-neck speed and Griffin has the extraordinary talent to keep his fans on track with outstanding characters and an attention-grabbing story line.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another new author (to me anyway)., December 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Blood Island (Kindle Edition)
I was perusing the kindle pages when I came across Blood Island. It is possible that this book was the "kindle daily deal" or something of that nature because I won't pay $8+ (kindle price at this writing) for an author I am not familiar with. Needless to say I got a bargain because this book grabbed me almost immediately. Matt Royal is instantly likeable and is somewhat of a cross between Doc Ford and Travis McGee as other reviewers have suggested (more Doc than Travis, I think). Royal doesn't hesitate to use violence when needed but regrets its necessity and struggles with what he has to do. I think this makes him more real than the Superman type characters we sometimes read about.

In this story he is looking for the ex-wives step-daughter, who seems to have fallen off the grid after Spring Break. As Matt back tracks her movements, he gets more and more concerned with her situation and finally ends up in Key West looking for a place called Blood Island. A privately owned island run by a religious zealot. Royal has help along the way from old friends and even some new ones as he continues his search. This story well written and doesn't drag anywhere. It holds together from scene to scene and keeps you wanting more. It would make a great film, if you could put the right cast together.

Five enthusiastic stars for H. Terrell Griffin and Matt Royal. You can bet I'll be on the lookout for more

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast-paced thriller!, November 29, 2011

This book starts out pretty tamely with retired attorney Matt Royal looking for his ex-wife's missing stepdaughter. Before you know it, there are dead bodies showing up everywhere. As Matt digs deeper into the girl's disappearance, he starts to uncover a connection to a religious cult and to a terrorist plot. The book is full of action and suspense. Although the events are not always realistic, they are definitely entertaining.
