Book Description

With the mystery of Chansey Leclaire and Curry Brennan’s connection solved, they are free to explore their newfound love for one another. Or so they thought...

When Marsala uses a witch and black magic to discover Curry’s whereabouts, he and Chansey are left with no choice. The newly engaged couple is forced to relocate away from their families at the new compound in Savannah, which causes some major changes in the plans for their upcoming wedding.

Relocating to Savannah might have saved Curry and Chansey from being discovered by Marsala, but it doesn’t stop her attempts to reach Curry or her efforts to harm Chansey through the use of black magic. As Marsala closes in, Curry faces the decision he never wanted to make. Will he keep Chansey human or condemn her to eternity as the thing he hates most?

As Curry waits for his hand to be forced, a newly turned vampire arrives at the Savannah compound in need of help. Not only is she a fledgeling in transition, she brings reports of escaping from a vampire cult still in possession of her sister, a human. Any attempt to save the captive human from a cult of vampires puts everyone in jeopardy. Can they risk entering a large cult to save one human being? And is so, how could they possibly do it successfully?

Love will grow. New mysteries will arise. A battle will ensue. A Blood Jewel will be found.

'Blood Jewel' is the second book in the Vampire Agape series. It focuses on Curry (a vampire) and Chansey (his Agape), who are destined to be together. It picks up easily where the first book in the series left off and weaves a tale of action, adventure, and romance. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, and I loved this book just as much. I liked the darker aspects that came into play with this novel - the dark magic, vampire cults, witches, etc. I thought it gave the series a deeper and more gothic paranormal feel, which I loved.

The romance between Chansey and Curry was as sweet as the first book. I loved how Cates wrote about Curry's love and devotion to Chansey. It was really romantic and added a great layer into the narrative. The plot was full of twists and adventure, which made it a page turner. It was really well written and the different threads of the story flowed together flawlessly, which made it easy for me to get lost in the world the book created. I was really pleased with this novel and will definitely be reading the next book in the series to see what will happen with Curry and Chansey next.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

3.0 out of 5 stars Second book shows more character depth July 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Blood Jewel is the second book in the Vampire Agape Series.

The relationship between Curry and Chansey finally went into full swing. Marsala had located them by magic so timing of everything was moved up. They were married and their relationship moved to a higher level. You know, as a reader, I had been getting a little frustrated myself about the whole waiting thing. Seriously, they had originally planned on putting the wedding back a few months. Thank goodness for Marsala making them speed it up!

An emergency at the compound cut their honeymoon short and they hightailed it to Savannah. Here I saw some action. The guys had to go rescue a "blood jewel" from a coven of bad vampires.

I learned more about the people at the compound where the vampire coven lives. Other characters showed their personalities more. Solomon, for instance, needed up having a connection with the Blood Jewel, Avery. Jennifer, Avery's sister and fledgeling vampire was new to the compound and went through a freaky vampire transition phase. Other characters personalities were brought out more as well.

Curry and Chansey experienced something wonderful that took their choice of changing Chansey into a vampire away. The rest of the book was mainly focused on that.

Just like the first book there is a lot of romance and love going on. It even added another couple to the mix. It is a very light easy breezy romance with very little conflict. When I first read the prologue on book one about Marsala and her evil ways I thought she was going to be a truly evil vampire, but no. In both of these books she'd done next to nothing. Sure, they kept saying she was putting it off until a certain time but a true evil vampire would have been more diligent throughout the book I think. I'm just saying..

I did like the book. It was a good escape into the world of vampires, my favorite genre. My rating is a 3.0

There is third book in this series to come out possibly early 2013, Blood Doll.

3.0 out of 5 stars Editing needs work! July 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I gave book 1 in this series 4 stars as it was a different take on the vampire world, and the characters and storyline were quick and easy to enjoy.

Blood Jewel, Book 2 in the series, was a little bit of a let down. The storyline moves foward and you begin to learn more about the unique vampire world this author has created, there were many moments where both the dialogue and the plot stalled.

While I still enjoyed the storyline and am still curious to see where book 3 takes these characters, the editing needs some major work. It needed work in Book 1 and I assumed it would be better in book 2. My assumption was wrong. If it is at all possible, I found the editing to be worse. There were errors on almost every page, and in some instances, several errors that were on the same page. The final straw for me was getting to the middle of the book and seeing the main characters name "Chansey" spelled "Chasney". It stuck out enough that I actually went back to look to see if I had been reading her name wrong all along. The errors continued with some confusing mistakes where a character is referring to a female character but using the reference of "he" rather than "she". This happened on several occassions. While I was more tolerant of it in the first book, it was a big disappointment to see the constant editing problems continue in the second book, along with them occuring more frequently.

I'm still curious to follow these characters in the next book to see where their story takes them, but I'm not sure I can get through it if the editing continues to decline.

More About the Author

I am a wife, mother of two daughters and a labor and delivery nurse. I have recently added Paranormal Romance Writer to my list of things to keep be busy, but I am ecstatic to release my debut novel, Blood of Anteros, the first book in The Vampire Agápe Series.

Like others that enjoy a great story of paranormal romance, I am easily bored by the tale of an obtainable, ordinary romance and was inspired to create The Vampire Agápe Series. When I am not tied up with my family or delivering babies, I am working feverishly on the second book in The Vampire Agápe Series.
