4.0 out of 5 stars Great read
This is the first Battletech novel I have ever read.
It is the first in the Blood of Kerensky trilogy and also the first novel in the Enter the Clans Battletech Era, which is comprised of 7 total novels.
The book is confuzing for the newcomers in the Battletech universe. There is a lot of action happening on a lot of fronts, the chapters going back and forth...

2.0 out of 5 stars It's a good book, if you like mostly talking!
This is a pretty good book, but I kind of expected more fighting. I can stand a little talking, but NOT THAT MUCH!!!

This is the first Battletech novel I have ever read.
It is the first in the Blood of Kerensky trilogy and also the first novel in the Enter the Clans Battletech Era, which is comprised of 7 total novels.
The book is confuzing for the newcomers in the Battletech universe. There is a lot of action happening on a lot of fronts, the chapters going back and forth but Stackpole did a good job at making the action integrate seemless. The tranzitions are not rough but a bit hard to follow.
Stackpole is definitely a great writer. The action is great, storyline is rich and intriguing, character development and descriptions are also great.

If you plan on reading Battletech books in the Clans Era [years 3049-3059] this is the book to start with and make sure you read them in order.
This is the order of the books in the Clan Era:
Lethal Heritage
Blood Legacy
Lost Destiny
Natural Selection
Asumption of Risk
Bred for War
Malicious Intent

5.0 out of 5 stars Movie? Why not?, June 23, 2000
This was the first btech novel I read. Although i found it hard then, to understand this book, i wouldn't reccomend to first timers. It took a few more novels until I read it again and loved it. The effort stackpole has put in this novel is amazing. The characters eg, Vladimir ward, Phelan kell and Kai Allard are exceptionally well. Vlad's brute force, fiendish mind and role as the heel made him my favourite in the novel and still is throughout all Stackpole's novel's. This novel and the trilogy should definately be made into a movie. It would surely please the current fans of the series and no doubt bring hundreds more. This trilogy is one of the more keypoints in the battletech world, with the coming of the clans. a movie made from this would be easily possible with the support it would be shown.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best in the Battletech world, October 16, 2010
I am quite please to see this trilogy making it's way into the digital world. For those that are familiar with the Mechwarrior world or are looking for a great Sci-fi book; this book is a must read. It is the opening to one of the greatest saga in Sci-fi history. The beginning of the Clan Invasion and the rising of ComStar.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good and supriseingly hard science fiction novel, October 30, 2009
This review is from: Blood of Kerensky, Vol. 1: Lethal Heritage (Battletech) (Mass Market Paperback)
A great start to Michael Stackpole's Battletech novels, this one serves as an introduction to the whole Clan invasion, and is great for any fan of Battetech.

Battletech itself seems odd, as few people would guess that giant robots blasting each other would be a good example of hard science fiction yet the novels are a a vocabulary building exercise in hard science fiction with just faster then light travel and the prime conceit that giant robots are the kings of the battlefield as places where it strays from very hard science fiction. Read it, it's good. It will teach you what magnetohydrodynamic means.

Stackpole did a great job for this book. One problem ; needs more a of a glossary.Like Twilight Of The Clans showing the 'Mechs, jumpships, tanks, dropships, and Areospace Fighters. But that was only a minore problem.

After playing the Battletech board game for years, this was the first novel I've read. It is fantastic. Mr. Stackpole keeps you on the edge of your chair with a masterful blend of suspense, satire, and action; all woven together with political intrigue. I dare you to put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic BT rocks, September 16, 2011

If you want to truly appreciate the Battletech universe, you need to know where it all began. Both this trilogy and the "Warrior" trilogy (also by Micheal A Stackpole) are absolutely essential for any half-decent Battletech collection.

Without spoiling it too much, this book is part one in a trilogy that explains how the Clan's arrival caught the Inner Sphere completely by surprise, how Phelan Kell/Ward came to be who he is, how prince Victor Hanse Davion-Steiner earned his reputation as a legend, how the Clans were stopped (temporarily), and how the Wolf-clan split. With so many vital plot points in the ongoing saga, this whole trilogy is essential. Even better, Stackpole is, and always has been, a good writer, so you won't be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars BattleTech Saga: Lethal Heritage, Blood of Kerensky Book One, February 3, 2005
Lethal Heritage, being the fourth BattleTech book I have read, is a solid introduction to the Blood of Kerensky trilogy. I recommend reading the Warrior trilogy before delving into the Blood of Kerensky, for a few choice reasons. First of all, the Warrior trilogy gives you a chance to familiarize yourself with Stackpole's writing style. In addition, the Warrior trilogy provides you with the necessary background knowledge of the Inner Sphere that you need to fully understand Lethal Heritage.

Lethal Heritage is the commencement of the Clan invasion of the Inner Sphere. This action packed addition to the story of BattleTech is necessary in the continuance of the saga. The Blood of Kerensky trilogy as a whole is very important, and Stackpole thrives in the heat of battle.
