Editorial Reviews

Review

“Blood of my Brother is exciting, full of passion both of hate and love. It is a story that will captivate and keep you in your easy chair reading until you reach the satisfying conclusion. It is a great book deserving of a 9 out of 10 rating.”
– Mainly Mysteries

“A tense thriller.”
– The Mystery Gazette

“Blood of My Brother is a fast-paced thriller with twists and turns that defy reason. James LePore has again written a novel of suspense showing his maturing style is in even better form. A best seller for sure for those who love thrillers and a good mystery!”
– Crystal Book Reviews

“I love a good suspense novel, and that's exactly what I got with James LePore's Blood of my Brother…. This is a fast paced novel that will catch you right from the beginning…. All of the characters bring something different and intriguing to the table, and you'll follow some twists and turns as you are introduced to each of them. James LePore has delivered a great novel for those who love thrillers and suspense! Definitely check this one out!”
– Confessions of a Real Librarian

“It’s the action that keeps you turning the pages, but it’s the bigger issues LePore works into the story that will keep you thinking even after you’ve finished.”
– Musings of an All-Purpose Monkey

“Readers of taut action will thrill over Blood of My Brother's chase sequences and rundowns with a Mexican drug cartel, while those readers who enjoy suspense stories with a bit of mystery will find no complaints.  Blood of My Brother whet my appetite for action, excitement and international intrigue and I was left satiated upon the book's conclusion. I would recommend Blood of My Brother to any reader looking for a solid story with action, intrigue and mystery. You won't be disappointed.”

From the Back Cover

When Jay Cassio’s best friend is murdered in a job clearly done by professionals, the walls that he has built to protect himself from the world of others begin to shatter. Dan Del Colliano had been his confidante and protector since the men were children on the savage streets of Newark, New Jersey. When Dan supports and revives Jay after Jay’s parents die in a plane crash, their bond deepens to something beyond brotherhood, beyond blood. Now Jay, a successful lawyer, must find out why Dan died and find a way to seek justice for his murder.

Isabel Perez has lived a life both tainted and charmed since she was a teenager in Mexico. She holds powerful sway over men and has even more powerful alliances with people no one should ever try to cross. She desperately wants her freedom from the chains these people have placed on her. When Jay catapults into her world, their connection is electric, their alliance is lethal, and their future is anything but certain.

Once again, James LePore has given us a novel of passions, intense moral complexities, and irresistible thrills. Filled with characters you will embrace and characters you will fear, Blood of My Brother is a story about a quest for revenge and redemption you won’t soon forget.

More About the Author

In 1999 I sold my law practice to write full time. In 2008, I signed a four-book contract with The Story Plant, a small, agile publisher in Stamford, Connecticut. My first novel, 'A World I Never Made,' was released in April, 2009. The second, 'Blood of My Brother,' came out in December, 2010, and the third, 'Sons and Princes,' in April, 2011. My fourth novel, 'Gods and Fathers,' was released in February 2012. 'The Fifth Man," a sequel to 'Sons and Princes," came out in early 2013. (Perhaps this is the start of a series. I think that might be fun. Stay tuned).

My latest novel, "God's Formula," is the second of a trilogy with co-author Carlos Davis centering around the work done by J.R.R. Tolkien and Ian Fleming for MI-6, Britain's foreign intelligence service, in WWII. The first was "No Dawn For Men." We are working on the third, which we are calling "The Bone Keepers," about a secret that dates back to the time of Christ, that, if uncovered, can not only change the course of the war, but of history.

I have also written six short stories that stand alone as pieces of short fiction, but that are meant to accompany my first two novels. The first three of these was released in February, 2011, under the title, 'Anyone Can Die.' There second three will be added to "Anyone Can Die," which will come out in revised form in 2016.

As a mother of two busy little ones, my patience for slow-to-start novels is not what it used to be. So when I first cracked into Blood of My Brother, I found myself wishing that the pace was a little faster.
But fear not, James LePore is just setting the stage in the early pages for what turns out to be a unique thriller, filled with exciting plot twists up to the very end.
I enjoyed James' matter-of-fact style that somehow, magically, depicts the story in real-life color. The characters still live on in my mind; a true test of great book for me.
Blood of My Brother is a wonderful read that's not to be missed.

This is a novel that deals with important issues, friendship, loyalty, integrity and justice.

Attorney Jay Cassio's best friend, Dan Del Colliano, is murdered, apparently by professionals. Jay feels that he owes it to his friend's memory, to find out why Dan was killed and then punish those responsible.

Dan had told Jay that a woman named Donna Kelly was holding money for one of Dan's clients, Bryce Powers. Now Bryce and Bryce's wife, Kate, were dead in what police claim is a murder-suicide. Donna told Dan that she would pay him to bring the $500,000 to her in Florida.

Jay and Dan had grown up in the mean streets of Newark, New Jersey at the time of the race riots of 1967. A time when much of Newark's downtown was burned out and the area began to die out.

There is a parallel story taking place in Mexico City when a girl named Isabel is placed in a convent in 1977 and then removed in 1991 as she grew into a lovely woman. She had been visited by a man named Herman who she thought of as an uncle. However, when Herman removed her from the convent, his goal was to get Isabel to work for him in the worst manner.

Jay is warned by the FBI to stop looking into Bryce Powers' death and any connection to Donna Kelly. Then he looks into the papers he had from Bryce and sees that Powers had illegal activities with a man named Herman Santaria and that Santaria's brother, Lazaro is the attorney general in Mexico.

As Jay arrives in Florida and searches for Donna, the tension mounts. Two gunman are searching for both Jay and Donna and are out to elliminate them for their Mexican superiors.

There is plenty of action and the characters are realistically described and very sympathetic. It is as if Jay and Isable are two innocents and the reader is turning the pages to see if they will be devoured by the hunters.

Well done and recommended.

Jay Casio's childhood friend Dan Del Colliano is murdered execution style. Since Dan is Jay's best friend he vows vengeance. In another part of the world, Isabel Perez is trained to be a prostitute for Mexico's' elite. Somehow these two chacaters are connected and as we read the story we found out why. Told in flashbacks and present tense, we learn about the individuals and what makes them who there are. This suspenseful novel has corruption, some action and some character development; a little slow at first but picks up.

I am a big fan of James LePore's debut novel, A WORLD I NEVER MADE, and read BLOOD OF MY BROTHER thinking the first couldn't be topped. I have to say that the supporting character, Isabel, does top the daughter and even the French policewoman in Mr. LePore's first book. She is real, compelling, flawed, and dazzling--and makes for a book whose outcome you will be tied up in. I hope more people discover this talented author.

I read about 4 books a week and for the first time EVER I put down a book 50% through and don't plan on ever finishing it. There were too many characters and names introduced and it became hard to follow. Too many stories within a story for me and in the middle I realized that I liked the main character but just really didn't care who did it or why. I enjoyed the last Lepore book I read very much and will give him another chance in the future.

The bonds created in Jay and Dan's youth forge who they become and set distant wheels in motion for what is to follow. Few do what they must to stay true to their friends regardless of the consequences. This is a unique and special kind of loyalty which runs deep and is difficult to explain.

Blood Of My Brother is an engrossing story about an harrowing journey one friend must take to be true to himself and his "brother". At the conclusion of this journey you get the sense that somehow through this journey Jay and Dan have re-connected on the streets of Newark.

No fluff here, just a great story about friendship, loss, discovery and things in life that money can't buy.

Blood of My Brother is the perfect combination of a page-turner and a well-written novel. The action and suspense were engaging. More importantly, the characters were compelling. Revenge is the powerful motive that drives the suspense--which holds together due to the history and strong friendship between the main characters. The plot twists kept me guessing, and kept surprising me so that my interest never waned. Finally, the romance was realistic and convincing. All in all an excellent read!

A brotherhood formed by friendship, not blood, is something not to be violated. "Blood of my Brother" tells the story of Jay Cassio and Dan Del Colliano, brothers of circumstance and friendship. When Dan is murdered, a job done professionally, Jay uses his power as a lawyer and determination as a man to find the truth, and sees that his journey to find justice is littered with peril and even a bit of romance. "Blood of my Brother" is an exciting thriller that will prove hard to put down.
