Book Description

To understand the future, you must visit the past...

Ten years earlier...

Jillian Atford finds herself in an unthinkable predicament. Unable to resist the arms of an older man, a handsome Philadelphia cop no less, Jillian is caught in a reality she chooses not to accept...the gleaming gold band on Calvin Kyle's ring finger.

Lyla Kyle discovers the body of her mother, dead on the floor from an apparent suicide. Blaming the hands of her philandering father, Lyla wastes no time seeking revenge.

In a heroic attempt to save a colleague from his burning home, Detective Jason Brighthouse Sr. ends up in the wrong place at the right time. When neither makes it out alive, Brighthouse's son, Jason Jr., can only harp on their last words, a bitter argument. In despair he takes a gun to his head...his father's gun.

Three lives. Three deaths. One story that will entwine their futures forever through consequences, revenge, and obsession.

Blood in the Past: an introductory novella to the Blood for Blood Series. The first full-length novel in the series, Blood in the Paint, is available now.

Editorial Reviews

"Actions have consequences that can sometimes go beyond what we think. Blood in the Past demonstrates exactly how tragic those consequences can become...This hard hitting, yet honest look at how something as innocuous as wandering eyes can lead to so much tragedy makes Jordanna East's thriller a novel to remember. With the turning of each page, the plot thickens into a pool of blood that just continues to spread from one seemingly innocent little affair. Truthful, hard-hitting and tragic, Blood in the Past is an excellent start to the Blood for Blood Series which is certain to leave cold chills running down your spine."
-Bil Howard, Readers' Favorite

5.0 out of 5 stars Darkly Fascinating June 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Blood in the Past is a case study in the ripple effect of one person's actions in the lives of several different characters, in a way that is darkly fascinating. It's impeccably written and researched. I found myself cheering for Lyla Kyle on several different occasions and with the possible exceptions of Jillian and Calvin Kyle I couldn't help but want to root for these characters. Can't wait for the rest of this series! :D

This is my kind of story! Five stars for Blood in the Past. Blood in the Past (Blood for Blood Series)

I love how the author took time to deepen the characters so when the action hits, it hits harder. ~ Robert Chazz Chute, author of the Hit Man Series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazed June 29, 2013

Not at all what you would expect from a new author. Blood in the Past grabs you from the beginning and refuses to let go. Transitions between the multiple characters are clean, and cleverly connected. The story is never quite what you would expect it to be keeping you constantly on on your toes. Expect great things from Jordanna East, with a beginning like this the series is one to follow. Can't wait for the next installation !

Blood In The Past, Jordanna East

Review By Aubrea Summer

I happened to luck out and pick up this novella when it was free, but I highly suggest you buy yourself a copy. I’m not normally a huge crime fiction fan, and before you chastise me, here is why. Most of the crime stories I read have either an underlying “mystery” which is blatantly obvious from the get and I don’t want to know what’s going to happen before I read it. Also, the characters in crime fiction have a tendency to lean towards the cliché, not believable as real people. That being said, I loved this story.
The story starts out with a girl, Jillian, who has a few issues. She is seeing a married man and is convinced he will change for her. You feel pity for this girl, but the author does a wonderful job of showing you why you shouldn’t and why a woman who makes this decision is bound to be subjected to the negative aspects. Jillian, however, gets more than she bargained for. I don’t want to give away details and spoil anything, but let’s just say revenge in her eyes is murder in the eyes of another.
Now, bring in Lyla. She is the daughter of the man Jillian was cheating with. The plot thickens. Lyla is bombarded with the tragedy of her mother’s death and left unsure as to whether or not it was really a suicide. She begins to blame her father, rightfully so, I might add, and decides to exact revenge. Lyla is the kind of character necessary to make crime fiction work. You understand and side with her because the author sends you delving so deeply into Lyla’s heart that you can’t help but root for her, even if what she’s doing isn’t “legal”.
Tie it all together with the third character, the son of the detective who lost his life trying to save Lyla’s father.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Set Up December 30, 2013
The plot moves very quickly, and speaking as someone who's never read a novella before it was a bit jarring at first. However once you're settled in and can appreciate that this is a set up for a future series, the pace seems to make more sense and didn't take away from my experience.

The plot design was great and you really get invested in the characters' decisions and actions. I would have traded some of the admittedly well researched medical information for more detail in the characters' appearances and early plot details. That said, I absolutely finished the book knowing that I'll be getting the next in the series!
