I've now seen every Whispering Corridors (a.k.a. High School Horror) film now and am torn between happiness that it's finally over and sadness that the last film in the series is probably the best overall one. Like the previous four films, everything circles around a group of private school girls who did something vindictive that led to a death and caused the dead person to come back and seek vengeance as a pissed off ghost. It's the same formula in each series, mixed with different characters and places. I would be lying if I said the formula wasn't wearing thin after five (!) movies about teenage angst, petty squabbling, and freaky ghost chicks, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. Mind you, it doesn't have acting up to par with Wishing Stairs (part 3), effects worthy of Voice (part 4), or the campy fun of Whispering Corridors (part 1), but it's still a fun little film with cheap scares and the acting is passable for the most part. From the beginning, I felt for Soy (Eun-Seo Son) and the predicament she got herself into as the unknowing scapegoat in the scheme by stuck-up princess Yoo-Jin (Yeon-Su Oh) to basically destroy Soy's best friend Eon-ju (Kyeong-ah Jang) for some petty reason that never quite makes sense (except by maybe saying that Yoo-Jin is an evil witch who deserves to die). This movie, aside from the surprising ending, is pretty black and white in terms of characters. You will feel that those who die deserved it once you learn exactly what they did and those who live seem to be the purest of the innocent. All in all, a fun time not quite worth the purchase price and a fitting end to a now five film series that has run for over a decade and shows its age. Rent it if you can.

A Blood Pledge Broken Promise was an entertaining film and is actually the fifth installment of the Whispering Corridor films. That being said, I have not seen the previous Whispering Corridor films, but from what I've read, this film stands on its own. It's not necessary to see the previous ones to understand this one.

The film starts with a suicide, where Unjoo, plummets to her death after jumping off one of the school buildings. To make matters worse, her younger sister, Jung-un is waiting for her near by, and discovers her dead sister after she jumps. Apparently, the suicide was not supposed to be executed by Unjoo alone. Three others, Soy, Eugene, and Eun-Young-Kim were also supposed to jump with her. For various reasons however, that doesn't happen. Thus starts the mystery and specualation around school, about what really happened that night.

As the film progresses, we find out that Soy and Unjoo used to be best friends, but once Soy begins to hang out with Eugen and Eun-Young, Soy begins to ignore her, due to pressuring by the other two. The gossip around school is that Unjoo was depressed about the situation and many girls blame Soy for her suicide. However, Eugen, the leader of the trio, tries to make sure that Soy and Eun-Young keep a lid on what occured that night. Apparently there was some manipulation and kanieving, which led to the blood pledge in the first place.

Eventaully, Unjoo's ghost begins appearing around campus but her intentions are not fully known. She does seem to be out for revenge to some degree, but her spirit seems to be selective in who she targets. Meanwhile, Jung-un is dead set on finding out what really happened to her sister. Soy is conflicted over the whole situation, but manages to keep quiet. But even as she does so, things begin to get progressively worse with both Unjoo's haunting, and the trouble between her and Eugene and Eun-Young. After some twists and turns and back stabbing, the film sorts itself out in the end. I won't spoil it for you.

Well this film is very atmospheric in nature. Lots of creepy angle shots and empty corridors that make you sit on edge. The constant bickering and accusations make me glad I'm not a Korean school girl. They can be unforgiving at times, at least in the film. The flim also uses a lot of flashbacks to reveal the story as it progresses. It wasn't really confusing to follow, but it definatley waits to give you some of the info that led up to the suicide.

The film's message seems to be about the pressures of life on school girls in Korea at expensive schools, where they have high expectations placed on them. Also, the status of academic ranking and torn freidnships. The horror aspect is good, but not over the top. There is no serious blood shed, although there is enough to satify the purpose of the film.

As far as the tech aspects go, it's in Korean only, with English subtitles. And I'm citing the DVD version from Toyko Shock. So if you were hoping for an English dub, you're out of luck. Not sure about the Bluray, but I doubt that will have an English dub either. The only other features are trailers of a few other films and that's about it.

Overall I gave the film a 4. I liked the atmosphere. Creepy at times, and all the girls did a good job with their roles. Eugene is a good mean leader, and Soy was a good conflicted protaginist. Eun-Young and Jung-un chime in well too. It's worth a watch if you like Korean or Asian horror that revolves around ghost stories and cute school girls dressed in spiffy uniforms. I kept thinking how sharp the girls were dressed througout the whole film in their black and gray threads. Very stylish. A good rental, if not a puchase for Asian Horror.

Blood Pledge makes me so happy i'm no longer in school teenagers never let u down on how cruel they can be and with friends like these who needs enemies. Great suspense great gotcha moments and something i diffenetly can watch again . =)

I haven't watched the movie yet, but I have seen previews and if you are a fan of the Asian horror movies, then this is a must see.

I can't wait to watch it and be scared!
