"Mr. Mangano's book "The Blood Pressure Miracle" is an invaluable book tailored to reduce the major risk known as hypertension. It's a complete lifestyle manual that left no stone unturned, ranging from exercise, food, music, meditation, herbs and supplements. I was impressed by the guidelines mapped out in the book leading to a healthier lifestyle. I'm a licensed pharmacist and I'm aware of and I've seen the undesirable side effects of prescription medications used to control hypertension such as dizziness and fatigue. Therefore, I would always choose a natural, holistic approach to manage high blood pressure. Mr. Mangano's work has been terrific."

While I don't wish to disparage the author as I admire his effort in helping people to combat hypertension, I wish he had taken the time and effort to make this book worthwhile. I don't think the publisher deserves much credit for providing editorial oversight either.
The background information is good, but nothing really that you don't find on any website. I was hoping that the advice section would be a little better executed. To his credit, the author cites valid scientific studies, but he didn't do enough additional homework to really help anybody make use of the information.
No mention of the DASH diet seemed like a glaring omission to me, as that has been well studied and the benefits proven. There are good free resources on the web that spell it out in detail.
If you are looking for a light read from a journalists perspective and you know very little about hypertension, this book is a fine start. If you are already somewhat informed and are looking for sound medical advice, keep looking.

Mr Frank Mangan has put together all the facts about high blood pressure in an easy to understand format. It accurately and completely includes explanations about hypertension, what it is, and how to bring your blood pressure down to normal readings, using a wholistic approach that is far and above any results you can get with drugs and their adverse side effects. Had this knowledge been available to my father and brother, who died from hypertension in their 50s, they could have lived a long and productive life. I am passing it on to my two sons, both of whom suffer from high blood pressure in their 30s. I would recommend that anyone, who is even borderline, insure their healthy long life by putting into practice what is contained in this book.

Skeptical b/c book did not have any research studies supporting in back, however, Frank does cite studies in the reading. And being a health/fitness professional, I approve the credibility of the content. The table of contents reveals many new and novel ways to reduce blood pressure. I love how he advocates exercise and healthy eating. The newest things or things I knew of, but he provided new insights were quinoa and other herbs. Quinoa is a very healthy grain, being it's the only complete protein grain AND it is gluten-free. It is also rich in B-vitamins, which definitely aid in reducing BP. I do think he missed a few big ones though that should be mentioned as reducing BP significantly. The king to me is watermelon. I've read of watermelon containing lycopene, citrulline malate (precursor to boosting nitric oxide production), 90% water meaning it's a natural diuretic and it is chuck full of potassium and other vitamins. Not to mention, I heard even the seeds have this substance called cucurbocitrin, which has a blood pressure lowering effect. Other than this, the book is fantastic. Very practical and down to earth. I like the natural holistic approach to reducing BP and am glad I bought the book. It will be a great reference to remind myself of the positive natural ways to reduce BP.
