Supt. Colin Thane leaves the environs of Glasgow to investigate arson at a whisky warehouse in the Highlands. Family intrigue, more dead bodies, and a crime close to home result in a trying time for Thane and his fellow investigators. The atmosphere of the Scottish Highlands and the fragrance of single-malt scotch seem to waft around the listener as James Bryce's versatility imbues each character with a vivid personality. Thane is often serious and dry; and the next moment his young assistant's grace and enthusiasm shine through. Thane's dour veteran assistant is gruff without becoming a caricature. Bryce demonstrates a range of Scottish accents, demonstrating the comments of those in the story from Glasgow about thick Highland accents, but all are consistently, reliably clear.
