Quick-read vampire romance, a step up from Vol. 1, November 29, 2010
This review is from: Blood & Sex, Volume II: Jonas (Paperback)
(This review was originally posted at VampireBookClub.net)
With most of the world-building for the Blood & Sex series occurring in the first title, Angela Cameron was able to take off quickly with a stronger plot in the second volume, Jonas.
Jonas is the second-in-command in the vampire mafia, and he's a good right hand to have as long as he keeps the dark side of his personality -- one everyone calls Luciano -- in check.
Elena is a top scientist in blood research. She's just discovered a way to boost immunity levels to near super-human strength. She doesn't know it, but everyone in the underworld is after it. Michael sends Jonas to protect her, and while the vampire knows he shouldn't care for her or want to be with her -- their chemistry is undeniable.
Jonas spends most of this quick read helping Elena -- both by protecting physically and aiding her understanding of all things otherworld (she's hunted by werewolves).
Much like with Black Dagger Brotherhood mythos, the vampire Jonas and human Elena are meant to be a mated pair and so each time they're near they can't fight the need to be close. While Jonas is much more plot-driven, we promise Cameron still brings the heat in the bedroom scenes. (Yes, multiple.)
It's a quick, single-sitting read with characters worth getting to know. If you were on the border after Michael, we're sure you'll be on board with the Blood & Sex series after reading Jonas. We are.

Blood & Sex: Jonas, May 4, 2009
Jonas Luciano is the new owner of The Dungeon, a newly renovated, vampire-themed bondage and blood club. He also has his hands full protecting Michael, the new padrone of the Italian vampiro cosca in Collins Bay, Florida. He is perfectly content to carry out Michael's orders and scramble the brain of anyone who threatens their safety. But protecting Tori, Michael's drop-dead sexy new compagna, is proving dangerous to his self-control. His lust becomes more powerful every night he is with her...Dr. Elena Jensen is an immunohematologist with DIACorp, the world's leading medical research facility. Poised to culminate her life's work, she's on the eve of a speech to announce the groundbreaking discovery of a new immune system booster for humans that will revolutionize the medical industry (and the lives of every human on earth).
Elena and Jonas's worlds couldn't be farther apart. But when the Council discovers a plot to kidnap Elena and the formula, Jonas jumps at the chance to become her guardian angel- and get away from his family. Will Jonas manage to protect Elena from the Bureau without breaking the Alleanza? Or will Elena's obstinacy be enough to drive the dominating beast out of the shadows?
This book has so much to offer the reader. There's action, fighting, romance, evil shapeshifters, a plot to eliminate the vampires...I could go on and on about how much more there is going on in this book. Ms. Cameron has gone beyond my wildest dreams with Jonas. I love the interaction between the two lead characters: Jonas, the reluctant hero with the bad boy image (well earned, I might add) and Elena, the scientist with no real social life to speak of.
It all starts innocently enough, with a bachelorette party for one of Elena's co-workers. Elena gets bullied into going by the bride-to-be, and the party is one of the first held at the Dungeon, the hot new (Vampire) club, operated by Jonas. Elena catches Jonas' eye (and more) in a hot, barely there red dress, and the attraction puts both on alert. Jonas, because of his "secret" and Elena because she feels something strong and different, not logical to her scientist's mind.
When Michael, the vampire padrone announces that the Council has found a scientist who needs to be guarded from The Bureau of Human Ascendancy (the bad guys) and possibly protected from the Quietas Agents. Jonas volunteers because he feels the need to get away from everyone for a while. He finds out later that the scientist he's going to be watching and guarding is Elena, the sexy lady in the red dress from the party. He stays away from her, guarding her from a distance except when she is asleep. But asleep, they share the hottest of dreams. When the Quietas Agents, who just happen to be werewolves led by Elena's ex-boyfriend Bruce, try to kidnap Elena, Jonas' secret self comes to the rescue.
The action is this book is fast and furious. The romance goes way past hot all the way to incendiary. What starts out in dreams, escalates to reality pretty quickly. Let's just say I'll never think of New Orleans quite the same way again after one dream sequence. The fight scenes are gritty and violent, but necessary to the storyline. Many of the characters we first met in Michael's story are back, with a few new ones introduced. I found it ironic that the Quietas Agents working for The Bureau of Human Ascendancy are the werewolves (I love that)
Once again, Ms. Cameron gives us clearly defined characters, and a wonderfully descriptive locale. The twists and turns in the story lead to a richly detailed story of passion and love. That her characters also show their insecurities makes this all the more compelling a read. And the final twist is so different, I did not see it coming until it hit me. I love that in a story, to be surprised by the end as much as the beginning.

Where can I get a Jonas?...A very Great Vampire Story!, June 22, 2010
This review is from: Blood & Sex, Volume II: Jonas (Paperback)
I was conflicted after the first book on how I felt about Jonas but man Ms. Cameron delivered a breathtakingly erotic male lead in Jonas. The set up at the end of the first book was a great start to this one. Jonas himself is conflicted about his feelings for Tori and now his formal relationship with his friend Michael. That really showed through out the book.
El was a good female lead, she didn't blow me over like Tori did but she was solid. What really did it for me was Jonas's alter persona Luciano. I loved it when he came out to play. You are talking about a vamp other vamps are scared of. Who wouldn't want to break off a piece of that? The fact that his whole body language and demeanor change and how that was written was very impressive. His interaction with El was hot and erotic. I LOVED the way the two personas blended with each other towards the end. I also liked El as a whole a lot better towards the end.
I only have two things that I wish would have been expanded on that was mentioned in the book. The first was the tense situation with Jonas, Michael and Tori towards the beginning of the book. The second was towards the end of the book were Jonas had to face his punishment and how that "should" have effected Tori.
So far I am loving this series and I can't wait to read the next one!
