You have to see this!, November 13, 2009
This review is from: Blood, Sweat & Cheers - Cheerleading Movie on DVD (DVD)
Before now, I managed to watch as few cheering competitions as possible, save for the few my daughter made me attend...that has changed. My wife convinced me to watch a little known documentary entitled "Blood, Sweat, and Cheers." This little film is a gritty inside look at the real story behind the labors of a group of pre-teen girls from Burlington, Massachusetts trying to earn a national cheering title like their peers before them. Get ready for bouncing ponytails and with plenty of attitude and sass, lots of used Kleenex tissues, bruised knees, triumph under pressure and slick choreography. You will get to know these girls from their families, to their teachers, and the coaches who drive them as hard, or harder than a top ten college football coach. It reveals the small town spirit we all love and the camaraderie between the girls these remarkable little girls and everyone's lives they touch along the way. This film hits at the heart of why we have our nation's youth compete in sports. The little stars in this documentary grow right before your eyes and allow you in to witness the tears and triumphs of their journey. In short, this is the real story behind the surprisingly dangerous world you never knew existed, and if you didn't like cheerleading before, this documentary will change your mind!

Interesting documentary, November 30, 2009
This review is from: Blood, Sweat & Cheers - Cheerleading Movie on DVD (DVD)
After watching Blood Sweat & Cheers, a story about a Pop Warner cheerlaeading team who are fighting for a national cheerleading competition title, I was blown away by the amount of work that goes into this process. It is a riveting look into the mindset and backstories of these families. It is also an interesting look at youth sports in general and the expectations and demands that get put upon young kids...and wondering if it is really way over the top. I was at times rooting against them as it seemed like there was so much overconfidence (most of the families book their trips to the finals way in advance!), but by the end I was praying for all of them that they wouldnt lose as I am not sure they would have been able to handle the loss. All in all a fascinating look by the makers of this movie...I thought that they told the story without being on one side or the other/. I also appreciated the extras on this DVD as having the performances in their entirities was a nice touch. all in all a must watch if you or your kids are involved in cheerleading or youth sports in general. Well done!

Title says it all! Loved it!!, November 21, 2009
This review is from: Blood, Sweat & Cheers - Cheerleading Movie on DVD (DVD)
A must see for anyone who has (or had) a daughter in cheerleading. The movie does a fantastic job depicting all the behind the scenes hard work by the young girls, dedicated (and super tough!) coaches and their families. The story is suspenseful, as you get a peak of the intense pressure and stress that these young athletes endure in attempts to perfect their 2 min and 30 seconds; heartwarming, as you learn about the personal and family lives of the coaches and team members; and heartbreaking as you watch all the devastating injuries and missteps that can impact an intense competition. Be prepared when you are watching to ride the roller coaster ride of emotions, as you will get goose-bumps & chills, shed some tears, while also sharing in the laughter of their fun times and sense of humor.
