About the Author

New York Times bestselling author Wahida Clark has cemented her position as the leader in her genre with her bestselling Thug and Payback series. Her work has become a template for other writers who try to imitate her compelling blend of intrigue, passion, and luxury with the often-violent realities of life on the streets. Wahida Clark was born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey.  She decided to write fiction while serving out a ten-and-a-half-year term at a women’s federal prison camp in Lexington, Kentucky.

Wahida was once an author that could do no wrong, but that has changed. This book was horrible. I don't understand why she insisted on telling us about these characters that nobody cares about. I was left not caring about anybody. Shan is somebody I don't like. I never understood the power struggle between her and Briggen. This chick kept having babies and then abandoning them. There was absolutely no chemistry between her and Nick. Shan was dirty, sleeping with random men, while she just gave birth to a baby. Briggen messed over her, yes, but after everything played out I was left feeling like he hadn't done nearly enough to deserved what she did to him. Red Bone or whatever her name is should just disappear. Then don't get me started on the sample first chapters of the Thug Series. She wanted us to choose between two messed up first chapters, killing my favorite series of all times! I'm like noooo!!!!

The relationship with Shan and briggen I don't understand how everything went south so quick. I thought this book would have explained the sudden change, but no it left me more confused. I wish there would have been a better character development of Shans sudden change. Overall I loved the plot of the other characters especially Born. But the book lacked consistency from what the first series of the book had. Sometimes it felt like it was all over the place with all of the characters. Hopefully something's will be more explained in the following book.

I choose to give it 3 stars because I know she can do better really should have been 1 star but I love the author but this time she missed her mark. The book was like a maze. So many irrelevant characters and conspiracies. I waited for this book and even pre-order the book thinking to myself that it was going to be another banger but it was very weak. Ms. Clark please do better the next time.

Like everyone else whose read this book or thinking of, I too am a huge Wahida Clark fan. Preordered my book and all! But after finishing the book, I'm really sitting here like "umm, what in the heck happened?" There were ENTIRELY tooooooo many characters! I mean too many! I'm trying to figure out how in the world did Wahida put all of this nonsense together to become one book. I got so lost, I had to go back and reread a few scenes to jog my memory and I completed the book in three days. Also, this book is supposed to be a finale, but after reading the last pages, you can clearly see there is more to it. The characters who most of us readers probably care nothing about, received the most recognition. And the original characters, were like props to a movie; they seemed irrelevant but REALLY, they're the reasons the book was purchased! I can say Born was pretty slick and his part did shock me. But I hated how the twins died, I mean really?? Even Crystals' death didn't have to play out the way it did. & Janay, I read so much trying to figure out what would happen with her, but at the end; she still had question marks. Like what's going to happen to her? Is she ever going to get out of the hospital? I wanted her to get a lot of the revenge because I really thought it would spice the book buuuuuuuutt of course, the main characters got knocked out of the MAIN character role. I wouldn't say I would advise one not to buy the book, because lets be honest, if I had waited to read reviews, I would have still purchased the book due to my wondering mind BUT don't rush to get it thinking you're going to have the finishing touches from the previous Payback Series. Will be glad to answer questions about the book; if you want to REALLY know prior to purchasing.

Wahida never ceases to amaze me! The moment you think you know what's going in a curve ball is thrown so fast it knocks you off your game. Never in a million years would I have guessed the ending. There are so many different things going on that you will never know who you can trust. I can not wait for the next installment to see how this all plays out. If you noticed, I didn't mention any names in this review reason being I didn't want to give anything away. Love is definitely blind even when you know the truth & keeping your enemies close is such an understatement.

Like others...huge fan of W.C but the book was all over the place with too many characters. It's nothing like the 1st book. The 1st book was EVERYTHING. This one felt rushed & short. Then of coarse it left you hanging with a to be continued ending. Why couldn't she just end it. Too many unnecessary characters. There was no character to get attached to. The ones we came to love are now DEAD! I'm really just trying to figure out what was the point. & poor Janay. All that happened to her but we still didn't get closure with her. She still didn't kill the person that brought havac to her family & Born at the end I felt like who cares. She tried to make it like he was the puppet master him & Joy.Ms Clark please go back the the original Payback book. I feel you went astray from it & just wanted to put something out. & the 2 chapters of Thug Series seems like I'll be disappointed. You could've left Kyra dead for what you're doing to her character. The 1st sample I was like lord can Tasha get a break from Kyron?! Ok I'm done. But Payback 5 I'll just wait until it comes to the library. I feel like since I brought all the other payback books I deserve closure & that's the only reason I will read 5.
