Driven by brutal guitars, ravishing synths and pounding beats, Mon Frere creates a world of zombies, wolf boys, and throat-slitting romance on a dance punk beat warpath. Frontwoman Nouela Johnston throws down the gauntlet, sassily belting her way through these 11 tracks of murder, romance and murder, leaving a trail of lost causes in her wake.
Blood Sweat & Swords is the debut full length from Mon Frere and makes good on the promises of the critically acclaimed 2005 Real Vampires EP.

While performing a show on a stage less than 20' long in a record store in Boise, ID, Mon Frere won me over.
Instantly into track one[entitled Y.M.M.W.D.S.B.], you are taken in by a cuddly synth riff. But what does Y.M.M.W.D.S.B. mean? "You make me wanna destroy something beautiful"...taken straight from the song's chorus. Cuddly? I think not. The rest of the album's tracks take you on a ride of powerchords, twinkling keyboard ditties, and drum crescendos. Each song is put together differently, yet carries the same idea of killer rock songs you can dance to. No track should be skipped, which is a lot to say. You can put this album on from beginning to end. And even after one time through, you will have the guitar riffs in your head. But the fact that they are from Seattle should just give you a hint right there. I would recommend this album for anybody who likes: *Catchy [but not pop sounding] rock *To dance! *Chick bands that wail *The Yeah Yeah Yeahs *Bands with synth/keyboards *Energetic, fun, music *To show boys who's boss :) Nouela Johnston proves that bands headed by females can wail just as much as an all male group. If not more. And in Nouela's case, I would definitely say MORE. AND!!! They don't even have a bass player [Like another girl/2 guy band we know...YYY's] Blood, Sweat & Swords is a fine debut album, and I look forward to seeing what Mon Frere has in store for us in the future.

This is album is quirky and awesome! The lead singer has a great voice, somehow even better in live performances. No filler; this album rocks from start to finish. I love it!
I wish they were still together!

I first saw this threesome of talented and very young people in a local music festival in Seattle, WA. These guys offer music that's very emotional, aggressive and yet poetically beautiful. I have purchased any piece of music they released and enjoyed their art very much.
The lead singer offers powerul expressive singing style and her ringing-at -times-on-the-verge-of-breaking voice is supported by a tight -woven background of melodious noise. They need a bassist to make this even better than it already is - and yet - here they are - raw talent at its best!!!
