Amazed!,

The sound quality is amazing. Having heard BS&T at Atlanta '69, this reminded me why studio albums (CD's) don't approach the spontaneity of the concert experience. I had completely forgotten their jazz intonations. This is for you if you're a BS&T fan (and if you aren't, you may become one after listening to this).

Brilliant live performances of Blood, Sweat, and Tears best material. I have been repeatedly listening to this disc for the last month. David Clayton Thomas is a unique and powerful vocalist who demonstrates more range than you might have thought, and is masterful signing the blues. The band is tremendous and the horns really stand out. If you have a good two-channel stereo system with horn-loaded speakers such as Altec Voice of the Theatre type, you will not believe the sound quality. This is just a phenomenal recording.
Only one song I really do not like and have never liked - 'Ride Captain Ride'. From an instrumental perspective, even that song is not bad on this CD. If you are buying with the idea of wanting to have only 1 CD of Blood, Sweat, and Tears, I think this is a great choice. ps. Can someone tell me the location(s) / date(s) of this performance(s)? There is no documentation of this on the CD liner notes.

Excellent performances. If you are a B, S, & T fan, you should like the different solos that were performed for a live audience rather than the record producer. I've been a musician for 50 years and I still find them to be the most skilled of all the "rock" groups. Their songs and arrangements have become a part of life that I'm grateful I don't ever have to be without.
David Clayton is every bit as good live as in the studio. One of the greatest, most versatile singers of our time and a band that really compliments his style(s).

- The songs are not extended -- they are just played slowly, maybe with an extra measure or two thrown in.
- The singer sounds like an old, tired smoker, nothing like on the studio albums of the past. However - The musicianship is top-notch - The audio quality is better than I expected (which was a recording from 20 or 30 years ago). I would have taken a performance from their prime with average production instead. |
