The kit was easy to use although 2 test sheets would have been nicer since in my case I didn't get enough blood the first time. My oldest daughter was going to Mexico for a semester to study abroad, and needed to know her blood type. The doctor wanted $200 (I was shocked) to do a blood type test, and my daughter did not want to give at the Red Cross to find out because she is afraid of needles. So, we thought we would give this a try.

I bought 4 kits: one each for my wife and I, and one for each of my daughters. My wife and I know our blood types because we give to the Red Cross, and would be the "control subjects". Plus, by doing ours first, it would allow for some practice.

Here are the steps for the test. Everything you need (except the water) is included.
1) Put a drop of water (dropper included) in each of the four circles on the card
2) Clean a finger with an alcohol wipe
3) Prick the finger using a spring-loaded finger prick
4) Squeeze a drop of blood on a stir stick
5) Stir the blood into the water
6) Using a new stir stick, repeat #3 and #4 for each circle
7) Read the results using the included instructions

The finger prick device worked well. The kit comes with two finger pricks, which was good because one of the pricks was already "sprung" in one of the kits (it looks like the protective cap came off during shipping). One tip for drawing blood: Make sure your hands are warm. My youngest daughter's hands were cold, and I really had to massage the finger to get blood to come out.

The kit comes with 4 "stir sticks". I found it a little challenging to get the blood on the end of the stick. Tip: Make sure to stir the blood and water well. For the first two cards, I was being "gentle" with my stirring. It worked better if I made sure the stir stick rubbed on the card as I stirred.

The results? Pretty good. I'm O-, and my card clearly indicated that. My wife is B+. Her Anti-D was clearly coagulated, but her Anti-B was not as clear. As we got more practice with the process and stirred better, my two daughters' results were very clear. My oldest is O- and my youngest is B-. By the way, I checked online to see if those were possible hereditary blood types for my daughters based on my and my wife's blood types...they are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Times!, February 24, 2008
This review is from: Blood Type Kit - Also Includes: 1 Eldoncard, 1 lancet, gauze, alcohol wipe, micropipette (Health and Beauty)
I purchased this because I was curious to know my blood type and it sounded like a cool way to do it yourself.
The steps are simple to read and follow, the tools used are easy to handle.
I psyched myself up and couldn't prick my finger so i had to have my sister do it for me. I think she enjoyed it a little too much. At first blood was not coming out but I pushed from the base of my finger to the tip a few times to work some blood out and plenty came. I had to do that for each test circle and it was no problem. That's the only thing they don't tell you, to massage the blood out of your finger tip.
I'd recommend this for anyone who isn't afraid of a little blood because it's easy to use and doesn't take long.
By the way I am A Positive!

I will never know if not having enough blood on the test paper was the reason for the error or if it was the test itself. I rate it "fair". If you are of age, I recommend donating blood-it's for a good cause..and you will find out your blood type for free!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use, Good to Know, November 10, 2010

Most people know their zodiac symbol - but they don't know their blood type! Which information do you think is more helpful to your health? I found an at home Eldoncard blood type test which is inexpensive and works like a charm!

It comes in a sealed foil pouch so that it stays clean. You also get four "stirrers", a little water-drop sucker (like a turkey baster), a little alcohol for cleaning, and a swab. You get a cheap finger poker, but I already had much better finger pokers from my various other test kits I've played with over the years, so I didn't use theirs.

There are four spots pre-colored. One is for A. One for B, one for the Rh factor, and one is a control spot.

What you are aiming to do is put one drop of blood into each circle. Sounds easy, right? However I am an AWFUL bleeder. When I make the finger pricks they dry up instantly. Even if I stick my fingers in hot water and do all the other tricks. This is a known problem with me (and apparently judging from my email of people who agree, a problem for many others as well). However this test wants you to do ALL FOUR spots at the same time! So you have to get four large drops of blood in a row! I absolutely think they should let you do them one at a time or at least offer that as an explained option for slow bleeders like me. It's certainly *possible* to do the tests one at a time. They just tell you that you need to do them all at once, which makes an already stressful test become nearly impossible.

So there I was with my boyfriend. We added the starter drop of water to each spot. Then it was a round of sticking my fingers into a mug of hot water, poking them, squeezing for blood, having him help with the blood gathering, and it was not fun trying to race to do it all at the same time. But eventually we did get a drop of blood into each spot, and stirred each one. Then we tilted the card up, down, left, and right so that the blood filled each circle properly.

Voila! (I have a photo of it on my Low Carb site if you want to read along).

The first one has clumps. This means it is positive. So I have the A factor. The second one has NO clumps. It is negative, I have no B factor. That means my blood type is A.

The third one has clumps. This is positive, and is the Rh factor. So this means the total blood type is A+. I'm happy, I like being A+ :)

The fourth circle is just a control. This should never have clumps - if it did, the test has a problem with it.

So besides the trauma of getting blood to come out of my fingers all at once (which took holes in six fingers plus one toe to get to work) the test itself was very easy to use and understand. There are clear diagrams to help you understand the clumping. The test itself is clear. And now I know my blood type, which is important for ALL sorts of reasons!

Well recommended. I would just say if you're a low bleeder like many of us are, consider just doing one test at a time. That is start with ONE circle. Put the initial drop of water just in that one circle. Add blood to just that circle. Stir just that circle, tilt around the card. Let it fully dry. Then move on. I think life would be far saner doing it that way.

I purchased this test kit with my own money from Amazon.

The blood typing kit was easy to use. Don't be intimidated by the thought of doing it at home. I was afraid of the pricking, but the tool they give you is pretty painless and the hole it makes is so small, it's actually a little tough to get 4 drops of blood out, so be prepared to squeeze!

I never had any idea what blood type I was. I asked my doc recently and she sent me off to the blood lab. A few days later she told me I was type A. But what about the rhesus factor? Oh, they don't test for that by default. What? What use is the test then.

So rather than waste another $75 I ordered this kit.

Me and my wife stood and read the instructions then added a drop of water to each of the four test sites.

We swabbed my finger to make sure it was clean, don't want to introduce anything nasty in to a finger. I pulled the cap off the lancet and pressed it on my finger.

*click*

Hmm, did it do anything. Then the blood welled up. Oh. We used the four little stirrers, one for each test, and mixed blood and water with the test material, making sure to mix in the test material from the surface of the card.

The cotton wool sopped up the blood and stopped the leak. By the time I finished worrying about the leak we knew I was A negative.

I washed my hands in warm water before we started, but I had no trouble getting plenty of blood out of my finger.

The most difficult part with this is trying to get enough blood on the dip stick. And if you don't get enough blood, it is very hard to read. We had ordered 4 kits, one for each member of the family, and ended up using 2 kits on one person. I probably would not spend the money on these again, I would probably just go to the doctor and get it done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast and easy to use, June 8, 2008

I bought this test because I've always wondered what my daughters' blood types are. My 12-year-old was willing to let me prick her finger and test her. The directions were simple, and the lancet was easy and painful just for a second. The hardest part was getting a decent sized drop of blood on the weird stick thing, but the test seemed to work even with a tiny amount of blood. As a regular blood donor myself, I should have thought to have her drink some water beforehand; maybe that would make it easier to get the blood to drip on the stick. Anyway, I gave this 4 stars for the ease of use - I'll upgrade it to 5 stars if I get clinical confirmation that it was right! :D

I purchased two of this product, and the first kit was a disaster when my husband used it, his needle did not work and when i used my kit, I ran out of blood to finish, so my test was incomplete. I think the worse part of this kit is the fact that the needle is a one time use only, so if your blood clots halfway through like mine did, you are out of luck, unless you are into self mutilation which I am not. I recommend having a back up way to draw blood because these needles either don't work and they are only 1x use only.
