5.0 out of 5 stars Hunting and Non-Hunting Perspectives

For the most part, I enjoy any video that pertains to hunting. It might appeal to someone else, but I truly felt like I had wasted my money when I watched this.

This documentary is a boy's story about his African Safari. It provides an excellent insight into hunting, particularly African hunting and how it relates to the preservation of game. Not only does it present some interesting historical ties and rarely seen footage to Teddy Roosevelt's famous 1909 safari, but it also accurately depicts important issues of past and present game management issues. I highly recommend this film for the hunter and non-hunter.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most excellent video on Hunting ever produced., February 8, 1999

This review is from: In the Blood [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Although the video captured today's East Africa, it is a combination of old and new. Using Roosevelt the Greater as the focal point, this video does more to explain the mystery and charm of hunting as anything I have ever seen. I love animals better than most people but Hunting is in the absolute core and makeup of mankind. To ignore this is a tragedy. Whether you comprehend my plea or think it foolish, see this video. I have my copies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Passing the torch, August 19, 2009
By
This review is from: In the Blood (DVD)
This is a trans-generational film that links us directly to the recent past with Teddy Roosevelt, to the present generations both young and old, but also to our ancient past, the hunt and the values of life and death. It reminds us of the respect we must maintain about our position in nature and our actions toward all animals. Death begets life in the never ending drama of nature, here as played out both day and night in Africa.

This is a movie about transition from youth to manhood, of taking on responsibility and understanding its consequences. Hunting is not about the power to destroy or wantonly waste, but about conservation and the true value of life. A young boy moves from novice hunter to the successful culmination of a hunt of one of the most dangerous of game animals, the Cape Buffalo with an historic rifle used in Africa by Teddy Roosevelt in 1908. He learns that hunting is more than killing. We witness the torch being past from one generation to the next.

Human beings are a part of nature. Hunting eliminates the sanitized world of prepared food in super markets and restaurants and puts us back into nature and face to face with who and what we are. If we can come back from that experience with the same understanding and respect discovered by this boy and as written about by Teddy Roosevelt, we are better for it.

It is "in our blood", it has been for tens of thousands of years. If we loose contact with our past, and detach ourselves from nature, our futures will be aimless.

This is the single best movie to introduce people to the ideals of hunting.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best hunting video ever made!!!!, January 26, 2009

This is by far the best video on hunting ever created. This film touches on the history, tradition, the complex feelings us hunters have about what we do. It is materfully, and tastefully done and is exciting to watch. I have showed it to non-hunters, and they walk away with more of an appreciation as well as understanding of what hunting is, and why we do it.

Every person who has hunted, or is considering hunting should watch this movie. I have used it to introduce all of my children to hunting.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Timeless Classic, October 13, 2008
This review is from: In the Blood (DVD)
For wildlife lovers, and those a bit wild at heart, this is a definitive work that explores man's interaction, links with, and love of nature. Sustainable utilisation is a natural and sensible way to ensure the game remains on the land. Sadly, as man becomes more urbanised, the more out of touch with the natural world he becomes and this is both an exciting and refreshing step back away from the totalitarian anthill of urban consumerism and the slavish views on wildlife that so often do more harm than good.

Hunter or non-hunter if you love Africa or even just the idea of Africa, and the outdoors then this is for you. It's an action packed, first class adventure. Both thumbs up. Robin - my bags are packed and I'm on my way...
