A bit of a change.,

Mortification really changed with this one. They went from death metal to groove metal, with Primitive Ryhthem Machine as the waypoint between. For those who are really into Mortification's older, hardcore death metal stuff, you may want to barrow this one first. It took me a little while to get used to it, but it really is good. So if you're into groove metal too, this one's a winner.

Fast,
This review is from: Blood World (Audio CD)
This album foreshadowed the coming changes that were to take place with Mortification. Blood World marked the band's morph of death/grind to a mix of death/thrash and a sort of groove metal. Blood World contains probably some of the fastest drumming Mortification has experienced. The double kick factor is outrageous! The guitars are still very heavy, but lack the punchy grind that was very prevelant in previous albums. The lyrics, as always, are very thought provoking and full of hope.El Kabong gives it four head bangs.

Mediocrity in Metal,

This review is from: Blood World (Audio CD)
I am a big fan of Mortification, so "Blood World" was a bit of a fizzer with no real substance to it. That said, it is not a "bad" CD, just not Mortification's best, by a long shot.
A couple of tracks, such as "Symbiosis", (which makes a great wedding song, seriously), are quite good. However, without Rowe's deathy grind, the CD generally comes of as a poor cross betweem death and hardcore. Much of the impact that Mortification's earlier work has is missing from this CD. Unless you are a hardline fan, choose carefully with this one. Listen to it before you buy it. It will appeal to some, but definitely not to those who have gotten used to the earlier, grindier music.
