4.0 out of 5 stars Great Fiction, Great Ending, Not Great for Romance
Doesnt have alot of the romance stuff in this series but for a fictional story this is cute! It doesnt follow suit with the first 3 book in the series but that is actually a good thing because after the 3rd book in this series you are ready for them to do something different.

I have been a huge fan of Maggie Shayne since I discovered the Wings in the Night and was thrilled when "Bloodline" was released. Then I read it and was really disappointed! It held none of the mystery and excitement the previous books had. The only thrill I got is when Rhiannon showed up and I thought for sure we would get a little time with all our favorites from the past. But I got excited for nothing. They came and went in a matter of paragraphs. The characters were too flat and didn't draw me in the way they had in the past. But I won't give up on some of my very favorite vampires! I miss Amber Lily and Edge!

One of my favorite authors. This book was pretty good, a bit more predictable than some but there was one huge unanswered question that distracted me. Where did the vampire Ethan get the money for his farm and horses??? In two years? How could he work with no ID? At a night job? Steal the money? One or two sentences could have answered it. Did I miss the sentences?
Lilith was the strong character who wants to go charging in, Ethan is more cautious and wants to plan things. She is too impulsive and takes off while he is still planning, then he has to catch up and try to save her. They should be fine when they grow up a bit. Maybe we will see them popping up in future books?

I picked this book up with great expectations. Unfortunately, it fell flat. I liked the basis for the story line in Bloodline, but I feel as if it wasn't developed enough. The characters just didn't leap off the page like they did in the prior ones. I was disappointed in both Ethan and Liliths character, they just weren't believeable. Things either rushed along plot (and romance) wise or they were dragged out. I can only hope that the next book will be better.

2.0 out of 5 stars So-So, May 11, 2009
This review is from: Bloodline (Wings in the Night) (Mass Market Paperback)
Well be careful what you wish for you just might get it. I wished for a book where the hero was not so super macho & dominant that you just waned to jump in the book and smack him one. So this book has the total opposite, a hero Ethan that's a wimp. Ms Shayne is one of my faviroite authors and I really liked the last couple of books in this series Edge of Twilight (LOVED IT :-), Angel's Pain etc, they are really really good. So dont let this book through you off the entire series, this was more a Harlequin Romance with more explicit sex a 2.5. The best parts of the book are the mother of the heroine looking for and finding her long lst daughter Lilith. and for those that are fans of the series Rhiannon makes an appearance of course, but it is totally unexciting and forgettable. A Libray read but definatley check out the previous books in the series.

2.0 out of 5 stars least favorite of the series, June 26, 2011
I love MS's books. She is one of my favorite authors. This is one of the first vampire series I started reading. Back before there were thousands to choose from. I think of her series when I hear the word "twilight", not the icky one that has so many in thrall. But this book just didn't cut it for me.

It starts off really good, but then just loses it's momentum. It just feels like there is a lot of detail missing and in it's place the two main characters go back and forth over the same issues again and again and again....

There were so many little parts I loved but it was such a little part that before I could savor it, it was gone. Then at the very end when the vampires we're familiar with make an appearance, with only the fabulous Ms. R being singled out, it's so brief and undetailed that if you blinked you would have missed it. It's written away with the excuse the sun is about to come up, but it just didn't hold up to the flair that would have occurred in the past. Especially considering not only is this not the first time a DPI facillity has been overthrown, but there is also the Sisterhood angle to consider, and the fact that all these brainwashed chosen have beentold to fear the so-called"wildeborn".

I was just left wanting something a little meatier and feel like I came away with a mouth full of fluff instead. Come on MS. I adore your series. Please give me something I can really sink my teeth into again. Don't leave me reminiscing of days gone by as if I were one of your toothy cast! It's like a stake in my heart!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bloodline, July 11, 2010
This review is from: Bloodline (Wings in the Night) (Mass Market Paperback)
Lilith awakens not knowing who she is and finds not only is she cold but she is alone under a bridge with no memory of how she go there. Then suddenly events unfold and she is running for her life, and boy can she run. When she finally tires she finds a barn and decides this is a safe place to hide.

Ethan is stunned to find Lilith in his barn. He never thought to see her again. He is surprised to find she doesn't recognize him and then realizes why, she is now a vampire. Ethan was forced to leave Lilith behind when he escaped the compound where he and Lilith were kept and trained, but he never forgot her.

Now Ethan will do what it takes to keep Lilith safe and hopefully have a second chance with her. But, in doing this it will mean that he will face the one thing he never wanted to again, the compound. Though it is not a surprise to him as he knew Lilith would never stand for others being kept and treated as she was.

Now the two are on the run, planning a rescue mission against a large force that wants to see them dead. Will they survive and will their budding passion for each other grow or be snuffed out in the race against unbelievable odds?

Maggie Shayne has written a very interesting storyline in Bloodline. I was intrigued by the secret government use and planned use of the chosen. Bloodline was my first Maggie Shayne story and she had me quickly intrigued with how the overall story would pull together as well as if it will lead to other books with some of the same characters. I loved how with this audio book I was not only able to imagine the action and romantic scenes, but also able to make weeding my garden go by quickly. As this was an unabridged audio I think many readers will be able to follow the writing easily and also be pulled into the story and lose time as action unfolds. Bloodline is a book that paranormal enthusiasts will enjoy.

I truely enjoyed this book. I have been a fan of Maggie Shayne for many years and this book lives up to her reputation. It is an easy read (read it in about 2 days, couldn't put it down) and just what you would expect from Maggie.
