4.0 out of 5 stars DOWN IN THE DELTA, October 13, 2001
By

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Bloodlines of Tyranny (Paperback)
Dan Dane spins a fine yarn about sharecroppers' lives on plantations in eastern Arkansas. Through his accurate depiction of black laborers and white landowners, the reader will learn the true meaning of the lyrics from a popular song of the forties, "I owe my soul to the company store."
Dane, a lawyer with experience in the judicial system of the Delta, compares today's law enforcement agencies that tie poor blacks to them by using the blacks as snitches to avoid jail time with the plantation owners who held black farm workers hostage to the general store.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vivid characters, a great story and a compelling read, March 20, 2003
By
Bob Lupo (Old Greenwich, CT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bloodlines of Tyranny (Paperback)
Bloodlines of Tyranny is a memorable, sad, angry tale of a time that no longer exists and yet a time that remains with us. Set in the Arkansas Delta, the book dissects the elements of power and greed of white planters and their dismal domination of sharecroppers in the 1940s. Times change, we think, but Bloodlines fast forwards through the generations to dissect fissures in modern life with incisive profiles of life's bottom layers and those assigned to control them. The underlying theme of the book is that while the old unjust planter/sharecropper system has dissolved, an equally invidious system of injustice and hopelessness has replaced it. Poverty in the inner city is as ingrained as it was in the old Arkansas Delta. This is a great story and a must read for all those who care about the structure of modern life. Bob Lupo, author, A Buffalo's Revenge, and Extremities-4.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique Characters/authentic dialogue, June 24, 2001

REVIEW OF "BLOODLINES OF TYRANNY"

In his book, Bloodlines of Tyranny, Dan Dane grabs your attention on the first page and holds it until the last one. The setting is in the cotton-growing region in Arkansas. The novel spans four generations, going from the plantation owners battering their black sharecroppers to the small-town politicians doing whatever they wanted to maintain control and get rich. Much of the story takes place in various courtrooms. The strong points of this book are the dialogue and the portrayal of the unique characters. Recommended for all adult readers.

Jean Starnes, author of "Hell on Wheels"; columnist for the Midland Reporter-Telegram.
