5.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly Awful
Don't take my title the wrong way. This is the best viking metal album I've ever heard, and when I say it's perfect, I mean it. Whether due to talent or production, this album is incredibly tight. Every note, every drumbeat, every vocal excess is timed to perfection. And all in service to the most hysterically awful fantasy metal I've ever had the pleasure of listening...

1.0 out of 5 stars Metal is war...
...at least according to Sacred Steel. But I'd like to think that war would sound a little more grim and hopeless than this album ever does.

If you like power metal, you might like this. But I really hope you don't. A friend left a copy of this CD in my basement years ago, and I recently rediscovered it and gave it a couple of listens out of curiosity...

Every note, every drumbeat, every vocal excess is timed to perfection. And all in service to the most hysterically awful fantasy metal I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Could you cram more uses of the words blood, steel, and metal into that track list? Could the music itself be more driving? Could they sing more about battle and demons? The answer to all these questions is no. And thank god for that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sacred Steel = Gods, May 6, 2001

This CD is very epic and fun to listen to. I can't stop listening to STORMHAMMER, By the Wrath of The Unborn and Lust for Blood. Sacred Steel, like Manowar proves that true metal will never die. Hail the Wargods of Metal!

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Millenium Metal Classic, April 22, 2001

From the beginning to the end this is a classic metal disc. It is power metal with a battle hymn feel, sanctuary type vocals, and blasting riffs. It is rare that I find a newer release that I like every song, but this one I do. There are a few songs that actually make me headbang at my computer when no one is around. I find myself rocking hard at traffic lights - does this sound familiar? If you want a rocker, I recommend checking it out.

...at least according to Sacred Steel. But I'd like to think that war would sound a little more grim and hopeless than this album ever does.

If you like power metal, you might like this. But I really hope you don't. A friend left a copy of this CD in my basement years ago, and I recently rediscovered it and gave it a couple of listens out of curiosity. Ouch.

The musicians are proficient at their instruments, but that's about all that can be said in praise of this band. The album's most noticeable characteristic is the singer's annoying, pseudo-operatic vocal style. Dude often sounds like he's doing a bad Geddy Lee impression, especially on the interminable "Blood on my Steel," which is admittedly one of the more memorable songs on this album (but only because it's so annoying and ridiculous that it stands out from the pack.)

If you like soaring vocals set to fast but rather boring metal riffs, or if you just have a soft spot for albums where all the songs are about swords, than this might do it for you. Otherwise, give this one a wide berth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very fun album, February 26, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bloodlust (Audio CD)
i wouldnt call this cd very memorable and i dont think that the band is as talented as other metal bands. but why give i 4 stars because i like it a lot. It has a lot of replayability, and the songs are fun, fast, catchy and raw. I can put this cd in at any time and be happy. If i want to listen to a song and not have to wait 6-7 minutes for it this albums perfect, its all there in 3-4 minutes.

Sacred Steel has sort of the Manowar, death to false metal persona, but they dont sound the same, there not as epic sounding. There just a fun quick listen.

When i first bought this cd i got it along with there first, Reborn in Steel on ebay for about $5 each, They were on different auctions and i ended up getting reborn in steel first. let me tell you, it sucked, i think ive listened to it 3 times. the 3rd time was just to give it another chance because i like bloodlust so much. I think the main problem was the guys vocals, they were beyond awful, he sounded like a squeeling pig. but 2 albums later his vocals seem to improve a crap load, i dont know what he did but it was good.

So dont buy Reborn in Steel, its terrible. But Listen to a few clips from Bloodlust and if you like or dont mind the vocals then buy this cd, you wont be disappointed

2.0 out of 5 stars "BLOODLUST" Is Subpar Power Metal, August 15, 2000
By
Tony G. (Nanuet, New York United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bloodlust (Audio CD)
Sacred Steel is a German power metal band and "BLOODLUST" is their offering for the year 2000. I have not heard any other albums by this band so I cannot comment on their overall output, but if this particular album is any indication of the bulk of their work, then I have just purchased my first and last Sacred Steel album. The band may very well be a talented group of musicians, but this disc certainly doesn't show it off nearly as frequently as it should. A couple slightly memorable hooks and riffs here and there do almost nothing for the overall product and "BLOODLUST" pretty much just sits there and sounds subpar and amateurishly generic. Yes there are songs like "Stormhammer" and "Master Of Thy Fate" that have decent choruses and slightly catchy melodies, but the album is not nearly as good nor as memorable as say a Hammerfall or Nocturnal Rites disc. "BLOODLUST" may not be the worst of its kind, but it certainly could be better!

2.0 out of 5 stars mediocre and annoying, January 27, 2001

i picked up this cd on impulse...it started out ok...with a deep growling voice....what happened next shattered my ears and hopes of this cd being anything id ever listen to again. a shrieking, whinnying elven flail bopped me on the head. that flail was the voice of the lead singer. im sorry, unless you can stand white metal 1980's shrieking throughout the ENTIRE cd...dont buy this. the guitars are decent and the drumming is skillful( thus the two stars). if i want music to read the lord of the rings to, ill pick up something easier on the ears( nocturnal rites, blind guardian).
