Intense As All Hell,
By Nick Watkins "Nick Watkins" (New Albany, Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bloodlust (Audio CD)
Listening to this album was my first experience with Through The Eyes Of The Dead, and what can I say, these guys tear it up. I've heard some people call them hardcore, I've heard others call them death metal, others call them metalcore, and so on, but in my opinion, TtEotD play brutal ass death metal with hardcore breakdowns thrown in for added intensity. The guitarists are excellent; from tricky high speed single note riffs to slow, brooding breakdowns, they cover it all, and do it well. The drummer is, quite frankly, INSANE. He's a machine, and quite possibly one of the fastest drummers I've ever heard on the double pedal. When he gets going full speed you won't be able to keep yourself from thinking "holy s*it!!". For fans of death metal drumming, TtEotD will NOT disappoint. The vocalist usually does high pitched shrieks, more resemblent of black metal than death really, but it fits the music very well and adds to the brutality of it all. Many people may avoid this band, thinking their just another run-of-the-mill metalcore bandwagon hop on, but they're MUCH better than the majority of the clones stinking up the scene. This release is relentlessly punishing, brutal and chaotic, with jaw-dropping breakdowns, fierce vocals and unbelievable instrumentation. What's not to like? I recommend this album to all fans of heavy music.

I have been waiting all year,

It's about time this cd has come out. It is in my opinion one of the best cds to come out this year. Their drummer's double bass is INSANELY fast. Their breakdowns keep it coming and plenty of blast beats. Anthony's voice is still as pulverizing as ever. I bought their old EP "The Scars of Ages" and I've heard the split. This cd is a must buy. Even if you hate hardcore and you're into death metal, you should get this. You won't be disappointed. If hardcore influenced death metal is your cup of tea, drink this up.

God, I've Waited For This One,

Through The Eyes of The Dead had already become a big name in the scene with their debut EP "Scars Of Ages" and their split with the Knife Trade. For anyone who thought TTEOTD were holding out on material for their first official album, you couldn't be more right. The second I put this cd on I fell in love with it, and so will any fan of the band or metalcore, metal, hardcore or death. TTEOTD have definitely upped the ante of this one, and now that they have the backing of indie metal powerhouse Prosthetic Records, they are ready to take on all who may oppose them.
For fans of previous releases, "Beneath Dying Skies" and "The Truest Shade Of Crimson" have both been re-recorded for this release, and are just as amazing as you would have remembered them. The album is made up of 11 songs (including an intro, and outro), and each song is easily memorable, and just like previous releases, you will find yourself constantly repeating the cd to listen to favorites like "When Everything Becomes Nothing" and "With Eyes Ever Turned Inward". Musically the band is equally as amazing as they were on any of their past releases. The sound is more along the lines of their split with The Knife Trade. They have definitely concentrated a lot of the death metal aspect of their sound for this release, which has created interesting moments throughout the cd. The dual guitar riffing is taken to new heights on this album, making songs like "Two Inches From The Main Artery" and "Bringer Of Truth" instant hits. The vocals are still over powering and command the respect of all who listen, although they don't see a lot of diversity. However that works to the album's advantage, because had clean vocals or whiny singing been randomly thrown in, this would not be nearly as outstanding an album as it is. The rhythm section is still an intrical part of the band. The drumming is even better than what we've heard before. For the hardcore faithful there's more than enough breakdowns hold you over, and for the metal heads there's plenty of dynamic riffs and solos found throughout the record. There really is something for every fan of heavy music to like about this album. Everything you loved about the band is still intact on this release and that's definitely a good thing in this case. Through The Eyes Of The Dead have succeeded in releasing one of 2005's best offerings so far, and I expected no less from these guys. If you haven't already picked up their ep and split with the Knife Trade, then those should definitely be the next additions to your collection. As for this album, I guarantee no complaints from anyone who was previously a fan of the band. This album was made for you. If you like hardcore, metal or any of the related sub genres, then I would definitely recommend giving this one a listen. It's most likely one of the best you'll hear this year.

Excellent But Too Little Songs...,
By Bill Lumbergh "yeaahh..." (Initech) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bloodlust (Audio CD)
Through The Eyes of the Dead is a solid death metal band with hardcore and melodic metal touches as well that hails from South Carolina. With some of the most unique vocals and riffs, along with the double bass, you can't go wrong with this band. However, note that this CD has quite a bit of filler here. There are FOUR interlude tracks in here, and they have no significance unless they are fused with a song.
There are only five new songs on this CD. They are: 1. Two Inches From A Main Artery 2. When Everything Becomes Nothing 3. Bringer Of Truth 4. With Eyes Ever Turned Inward 5. Force Fed Trauma The other two songs, "Truest Shade of Crimson" and "Beneath Dying Skies", are just remakes of songs off their previous recordings. If those songs weren't re-recorded, this CD would probably be considered an EP. This is a very solid CD with talented and unique musicians. However, it loses a star because it lacks newer content, as usually expected with a full-length album, and having that many interludes is pretty ridiculous in my opinion. For fans of The Black Dahlia Murder, Arsis, Beneath The Massacre, Unearth.

Another band that has been passed off as metalcore but isnt, Through the eyes of the dead harken back to the early 90's, and the glory days of death metal. Pissed off screams and barking vocals, heavy riffs and breakdowns, tales of death and dismemberment, their all here. If your into the old death metal bands like cannibal corple, Obituary, six feet under, and others of the ilk, you'll enjoy this band. If not, look elsewhere.

THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD, BLOODLUST,

If you like: Suicide Silence, Between the Buried and Me, My Bitter End, Carnifex, or Bring me the Horizon's - Count your blessings cd, then you will probably like this cd. Two Inches from a main artery is the song that turned me on to these guys. I can't decide whether I like the original singer, the one on this cd, or the new singer, the one on the new cd, better. The original singer has more range than the new one, he's kind of monotone. I own this one and the new one and can't decide which I like better. This is a great cd and worth the money.

get this album,
This review is from: Bloodlust (Audio CD)
this is album is sooooo sick. the breakdowns are so heavy i had to fight everyone in my family the second i heard them. the riffs are pretty standard but they're rediculiously fast and the drumming is out of this world. if you're into the black dahlia murder, job for a cowboy, as blood runs black i think it's a requirement that you have to buy this cd if you don't want to be made fun of for the rest of your life.

AMAZING!!!,
This review is from: Bloodlust (Audio CD)
This album is a must buy for anyone who likes death metal black metal or even grindcore. Great breakdowns, a hint of hardcore in there. Hard to understand the singer and it takes sometime to get used to the way he screams but superb none the less. And just as everyone else has mentioned, the drummer is f**king crazy. He is the fastest that i have heard. I saw them in concert and he actually is that fast. No triggers. Very consistent. Highly recommend to buy because you will listen to it hundreds of times just in awe of the drummer.

The most apocalyptic deathcore sh|t ever!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Bloodlust (Audio CD)
This Cd is the essence of deathcore music. The drummer is amazingly fast and precise and he always hits the bells on the cymbals which sounds fantastic. This music is evil for real.
It sounds great if you love high screams and low death metal screams. The CD is a must buy.

BROOTAL,
By Cyrus (Greensboro, North Carolina) - See all my reviews

I first heard Through The Eyes of The Dead on Sirius radio. I don't remember what song it was, but it was BRUTAL. I am very picky about metal bands, so to purchase an album with only hearing one song doesn't happen with me. I bought this cd not expecting much, due to the generic, and not so original name of the band. Upon first spin in my stereo system, I was completely blown away. The mix of hardcore, melodic death, and brutal/gutteral death metal is amazing. This is the best record I have heard in a long time. I rank it up there with Nile's AOTW, and Meshuggah's Catch 33. For those who might think TTEOTD is "metalcore" who cares. IF they are metalcore, they are clearly superior than others in the genre. reguardless of genre, this is one amazing METAL album. Heavy guitar riffs, solos, and break downs, blistering drums and bass, and a vocalist who can capture the greatness of hardcore influenced death metal, and gutteral brutal death metal. Buy this album, it is that good.
