Started in Darkland - the story of manipulation - of genes, nanotech, and sentience - comes to a satisfying resolution in Bloodmind. A mix of some lovely ideas, both sci fi and mythology/fantasy, combines well with strong and sympathetic characters. The story evolves through a number of perspectives as a number of characters follow their own desires and seek their own destinies. The manipulations of sentience in particular are appalling if the reader stops to consider deeply, but the narrative pace does tend to sweep the reader along at a good pace. To my mind a superior read than the opening Darkland.
