Sympho-rock at its best,

The band doesn't need an introduction to the fans. For those who are not acquainted: let's say, it's not "just another" sympho-rock group from Skandinavia (from Norway, to be more precise), and they are not newcomers our of nowhere. The band somehow is underrated, although it should be placed in the same ranks as Theatre of Tragedy, Within Temptation, Nightwish... This is a mature band (started in 1997 under the name of "Natt", later signed by "Napalm") with 5 albums - this is the 6th, if I am not mistaken. It might be qualified as female-fronted group (French singer Emmanuelle Zoldan is exceptional, and Catherine Paulsen is bloody good). The sound is amazing, clear and sharp, the skills are great and - pretty rare thing - these musicians are true composers. It's a matter of taste, but the only thing I do not accept - male growling, there is no need to sacrifice good music because of the "genre". I would recommend not to neglect other albums too. I am grew up on Sabbath, Purple, Grand Funk etc, and I was very pleased with this CD.

Though I have to say that I loved Emmanuelle's vocals on Existentia, I'm glad to see Cathrine back on this album!!!! Her voice is very very very poweverful on this album and I think her vocals even overshadow Ronny's, whose voice/growls I admire equally!!! Ronny and Catherine are both amazing and powerful, I love you guys so much!!!! Please come to Los Angeles!!! Would love to see this new material being played live!! Trail of Tears, you are one of the best!!!! Love the opening song (The Feverish Alliance) with the eerie symphonic sound and closes with another of my favorites, Faith Comes Knocking, with that same twisted symhonic sound with very wicked laughs, very very amazing!! I love you Trail of Tears!!! I love every single song because they stick to their dark gothic roots. There's no really operatic sounds here, just Cathrine singing with a great strength and passion, which I love equally; don't get me wrong, I don't mind operatic style either, it all depends.
The bonus song, Onward March..., is also great, I'm glad I got the spceial edition with this extra song!!! |
