The Bloodstream EP is no doubt a perfect debut. Whilst it is only an EP (four tracks) I still find myself listening to it a year after I purchased it, it is a recording that has had a profound influence on me - which is a nice change compared to a lot of the other rubbish that has been released in the last year. Apparently their full length release is due by the end of 2006 (very keen to get my hands on that).

You can draw some comparisons between Stateless and other bands / groups, but I really feel that such comparisons will not give you a clear idea of their musical expression.

Do yourself a favour and get this EP, or at least wait for the LP to be released.

I feel so ignorant... It took me over a year since this EP was released to find out about this Leeds-based band called Stateless. About a week ago, I ran into this DJ Shadow song in iTunes that featured a singer called Chris James. I had no clue who he was. He ended up being the singer of Stateless.

They have got to be the best kept secret in all of music, in the past few years. With a sound blending beats a-la-DJ Shadow (whom they are touring with) with a straight up rock sound (not unlike Radiohead -or Muse, if you prefer) and with a touch of ambient much in the same vein as M83, I find myself speechless, without a song to pick as my favorite among the four contained in their EP. The entire production is solid and original at the same time.

These guys have the formula... Great vocals, sick, modern instrumentals. However you found yourselves at this page, do yourself (and your friends) a favor and get this album. The title track is unbelieveable. Listen to samples at the bands website (just search the web for Stateless +UK or something. I heard about them via DJ Shadow's website and was just blown away. My friend mentioned that they sounded like Coldplay and Portishead, which is a good way to describe it I think.
