Book Description

November 15, 1995
The twin sons of Harry Keogh, the Necroscope, have taken very different paths. Nathan as his father's powers--to talk to the dead, to travel instantly through space. Like Harry, this new Necroscope fights evil wherever he finds it.

His twin, Nestor, has become the most horrifying evil imaginable: a shape-shifting, blood sucking Wamphyi Lord! Devoid of human feeling, Nestor and his companion, the beautiful, malevolent Wratha the Risen, hunt without mercy.

The battle between the brothers mirrors the war between vampires and humans. On mankind's side: terrible weapons brought from Earth by Nathan's allies. But the vampires are numerous and powerful, and neither side has a clear advantage...until Nathan and his legions of the dead discover a way to destroy the vampires forever.

In the midst of a titanic battle, Nathan makes a desperate move that forever changes millions of lives and two worlds: the vampire world...and earth.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Concluding the darkly hypnotic Vampire World trilogy (Blood Brothers; The Last Aerie), this red-blooded offering from British Fantasy Award-winner Lumley also brings to a close the epic narrative begun in Vampire World's prequel, the five-book Necroscope series. This installment relates the adventures of Nathan Keogh, a cross-dimensional traveler and telepath who speaks with the dead (hence his title of "Necroscope"). On orders from his vampiric twin brother, Nestor, Nathan is thrown to Earth through an interworld "Gate" out of the parallel world of Sunside/Starside, a planet inhabited by gypsies (Szgany) and desert-dwelling mystics (Thyre), as well as by a fascinating assemblage of shape-changing vampires (Wamphyri), thralls and hideous living/undead "constructs" formed in vile vats of percolating human and vampire fluids. Enter top-secret British and Russian psychic agents. The British psychic "E-Branch" sends Nathan and colleagues to join the Szgany to fight the vampires, who are embroiled in territorial wars ("bloodwars"). Meanwhile, Russia is concerned because its rogue E-Branch head has gone through the Gate with plans to seize control of all of Sunside/Starside-and then Earth. As climax piles on climax, Nathan, in addition to being the linchpin in the plans of the E-Branchers, the Szgany and the Thyre, becomes the prime target of the Wamphyri. Though this is the last of the trilogy, readers must hope that Lumley isn't really putting a stake through the heart of his vampire universe-which is so vivid, with characters to real, that even the undead seem alive.

Review

"Darkly hypnotic...so vivid that even the undead seem alive."--Publishers Weekly

"Brian Lumley's skillful mix of epic fantasy and vampire muthology offers wide-angle horror of a scope too rarely seen in modern fiction. His Wamphri are vicious, savage, ruthless, and unrepentedntly evil--a feast for the horror fan."--F. Paul Wilson

5.0 out of 5 stars Grande Finale, January 29, 2000
This review is from: Bloodwars (Paperback)
What can l say but excellent. What a way to finish of this section of the Necroscope Saga. Brian Lumley has developed Nathan our new Necroscope very well in the last two books and has brought him to fruishen in this final book. As in all his books the whole story entwines with many different characters and plots up to a great ending to rival the one in Deadspawn, not going to give away the ending l just hope you read this book and find out for yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS GUY IS SO GOOD - IT MAKES ME SICK!, August 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bloodwars (Paperback)
Good lord man, how good can one guy get at storytelling. This novel was the cream of the crop. I almost left my family and friends just so they wouldn't disturb me as I read this tale of terror. Mr. Lumley has a sick and devious mind - and I love it! I will bet you anything that this guy is a living, breathing vampire himself. He absolutely knows too much about them. But seriously folks, this is just great entertainment in all levels. Its a wonder that anybody watches t.v. with great and fun reading material like this around. The vampire world and its denizens are so cool to enter and read about, there are never boring spots in these novels folks. Lumley is just too damn talented a writer when it comes to his baby the Necroscope series. Great work by a great author. Read it today or I'll turn you into my thrall.

3.0 out of 5 stars Left Behind....., September 15, 2003
By
"The Woj" (Downers Grove, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bloodwars (Paperback)
Don't ask me why, but when I was about half way thru this book I started skimming page after page. Similar story lines rehashed over and over, yet written from a slightly different character perspective to appear a little different. Lots of wordy paragraphs with no real action. It reminded me of reading the long drawn out "Left Behind" series. In defense of Lumley, he most likely felt compelled to explain the same past events over and over in every book of the series. With this being the 8th book, most of it ends up being a rerun for the faithful readers. Also trying to combine horror, science fiction, romance and spiritual themes in one book was just too much. Too many loose ends. I was bummed when finishing the first five books of the original Necroscope series, because I was left wanting more. With this trilogy I glad I done and am going to take a break from Lumley for awhile. Obvously you can't read the first two books and not this one. Just don't drop to many $$$ to complete the trilogy.
