Filled with suspense, sharply drawn characters, the evils of a corrupt government--set against the backdrop of space travel--Blood Wind is a panoramic novel that is hard to put aside and leaves images locked inside your head long after the novel is finished. This lady has talent! The second of Charlee's books which I have had the pleasure to read, Blood Wind is a tour de force of intrigue, action and steamy romantic heat. Watch out for her, because she is going to go far. -- genrEZONE
From the beginning, this book grabbed me by the throat and refused to let go. The premise is a well-structured variant on "Mars needs women,"...... The soul of this story is Kamerone Cree, raised since infancy to kill at his Empire's command. Due to a convoluted series of internested plots (I can't explain more without giving away vital plot twists), he is forced to undergo behavioral modification therapy -- a polite way of saying psychological torture and subliminal brainwashing -- to make him fall in love with the heroine, Dr. Bridget Dunne. Except he is incapable of the emotion. So they try to build it out of the emotions he is capable of -- lust, anger, jealousy, etc. His redemption comes in brief but powerful moments, such as the unforgettable scene when he forces a terrified Dr. Dunne to admit that she will do anything he says, even let him use her body however he wishes, and when she braces for his attack, he leans forward, kisses her forehead, then leaves the room. The torture scenes are excellently written, and if you can read Anne Bishop's work, you'll have no problem. They're mild by comparison.
Jennifer Dunne -- Science Fiction Romance Newsletter
This is an incredible bookone whose characters were so vividly drawn that they return to haunt me every now again. I certainly wont forget them any time very soonespecially since I plan to reread this book when the next book in the series comes out. BLOODWIND took my breath away, gave me an adrenaline high, and whipped me through one of the better science-fiction reads of the year, maybe of many yearsone containing a excellent love story as well.... The complexity of BLOODWINDs plot cant be amply explained in a short review, especially since Ms. Boyett-Compos world building, characterization of some rather alien forms, and the agony of the tortured hero all need to be read in their entirety to be fully appreciated. And appreciate it I didfully, completely, and achingly. This is the first book in a series and I would recommend it to anyone who likes SF, romance, or an absolutely engrossing read. Its a great book, and the cover is incredible, a brooding red sky filled with a pair of sorrowing green eyes, and Cree chained in space, alone with the sky and the eyes. -- Patrica White, Millenium Science Fiction and Fantasy

BEWARE of Captain Kamerone Cree - The Reaper!!!,
By
This review is from: Bloodwind (Paperback)
BloodWind is book one of the WindDemon Trilogy written by Charlotte Boyett-Compo. In one word, this book was Incredible!!!!!Captain Kamerone Cree is the highest ranking officer in the Ministry of Acquisitions. Since birth, he has been conditioned and trained to uphold the beliefs of the brutal Rysalian Empire. He, along with six others, are known as Reapers. All of them are extremely dangerous and possess the power to shapeshift into something very, very . . . lethal. None of them are more dangerous than Kamerone Cree. His savage/ruthless reputation causes men and women to flee from his presence. No one dares to confront Kamerone, fearing his wrath. He displays no emotion at all and is known as the Iceman. Whatever he wants, he gets. No questions asked. Nothing is denied him until the Tribunal questions his loyalty and decides to make an example of him. Why is his loyalty in question when it has never been before? He believes he knows who is responsible. The Resistance . . . He is ordered to the Ministry of Behavioral Modification where he undergoes cruel and brutal treatments. It is there that Dr. Bridget Dunne enters his life. Bridget is young, beautiful and a member of the Resistance. Along with her co-workers, she seeks to gain freedom from the Rysalian Empire and their only hope is to have Prime Reaper Kamerone Cree join their side. Bridget never imagines the impact he will have in her life. As he is forced to go through brutal reconditioning methods, her feelings for him begin to change. Kamerone is the most deadliest of his kind. A shapeshifting assassin that believes any emotion will leave him vulnerable. Yet, he falls very, very HARD for Bridget. He purchases her, forcing her to live with him. It is there that their feelings spiral out of control. Unknown to these two, there are darker forces at work. There are some who will stop at nothing to insure that their evil plans come to life. Kamerone Cree was the ultimate, tortured hero. He was simply to die for . . . (sigh!) He possessed such unimaginable power, a deadly force to be reckoned with if ever crossed yet he never harms Bridget. One scene comes to mind (can't give anything away). Bridget pushes Kamerone's emotions, willingly making him angry. She expects him to hurt her yet he never does. He touches her with gentleness and that soft caress is so very intimidating because it is in such contrast to the deadly fury roaring within him. Will Kamerone join the Resistance and what will he do once he discovers Bridget's part in all of it? BloodWind was worth MORE than 5 stars!! It is incredibly written. I, for one, eagerly await the continuation of Bridget and Kamerone's story in DarkWind. Run and grab yourself a copy of BloodWind. Prepare to fall in love with the deadliest of all shapeshifting assassins - Kamerone Cree. Bravo, Charlee!

Very good sci-fi romance,

After reading this book, I'm left with mixed feelings about it. While on the one hand, I very much enjoyed the book, on the other hand, something about it prevents a 5-star rating. THE GOOD: Characterization -- wow. Ms. Boyett-Compo did an excellent job here. By the time I completed the book, I felt as if the characters were personal acquaintenances of mine -- no small feat. I could easily see them in my mind's eye, and their actions seemed plausible considering their personalities. Scenes -- Another very good job here. The scenes were described in such detail that you felt as if you were there witnessing the events as they happened. Captain Kree's interactions with Bridget were sizzling...sigh. Even though feared by most as a dangerous man, he treated her with kid gloves. Hot, hot, hot. But, when angered or when you're not on his "good" list, watch out! I also liked the different locations where the scenes took place. This and the actions that happened at each location added spice or adventure to the story. Plot -- The plot was good too. Complexities were weaved into it which made it more interesting, and keeps you turning the pages. This book has adventure, danger, romance, and intrigue. THE BAD -- Not much here. I think what keeps me from rating this book 5-stars is a romantic element. The focus of the story was the women seeking revenge on the men. As a result, a lot of attention was placed on that aspect of the story and the events that moved their plot forward. While that part of the book kept my adrenaline pumping, I wanted a little more development on the romance side. Ms. Boyett-Compo does an excellent job of setting up the romance and playing it out, but I felt as if a little more would have satisfied my craving. In other words, more romantic emphasis on the ending so that I get the "and they lived happily ever after...sigh" feel. BOTTOM LINE: This is a very good book that I highly recommend. Why?, because I finished it a little over a week ago and I still wake up thinking about Captain Kree and Bridget. That to me is the sign of a darned good book. I plan on reading the sequels to this book, and other books by this author. (This is my second book, and the first one is what sent me in search for more.) Good job Ms. Boyett-Compo, you've got a fan.

BLOODWIND by Charlotte Compo-Boyett is a science fiction thriller that strikes at both the heart and gut. This tragic story of people intent upon a path to self-destruction, as well as the tragic manipulation of a couple brought together for political purposes, holds power over both the imagination and the heart.Men like Captain Kamerone Cree, called Reapers, cause fear in the population. Women are kept safely locked away, and men remain likewise concealed when Reapers can be seen. There are only six other men like Cree, carefully trained, conditioned, genetically manipulated, deadly, and capable of dangerous transformation. Cree, highest-ranking warrior in the Ministry of Acquisitions, thought himself immune to mundane things like emotions, until the Tribunal decided to make an example of him. Ordered to the Ministry of Behavioral Modification to be treated by Active Reinforcement, Cree finds himself tortured and brainwashed. But his tormentors are not just the Tribunal members of the Rysalian government. There is another power at work within those subliminal messages. Cree blames the Resistance for his torture at the Ministry Behavioral Modification. Indeed, the Resistance holds far more power over him than he imagines. So when their plot to insinuate the beautiful Dr. Bridget Dunne into his life succeeds, their goals move one step closer to fruition. They aim to stop the import of earth women to replace the complete loss of Rysalian women. They want equality and freedom for the women of the planet. And they want to stop the deaths of all female infants. While their goals are noble, there's a dangerous corruption within that threatens the wellbeing of the entire planet. BLOODWIND's themes of revenge and love will captivate science fiction lovers. The vicious manipulations and vivid characterizations bring this story to life with extraordinary intensity. Vicious creatures seeking blood, DNA manipulated blood, and the shedding of the blood of innocents creates a story of remarkable depth. BLOODWIND is scheduled to followed by DARKWIND, the continuing story of Cree, and EVILWIND, the story of his son. This reviewer eagerly looks forward to the sequels!
