Absolutely wonderful,

This review is from: Bloody Jack: Being an Account of the Curious Adventures of Mary 'Jacky' Faber, Ship's Boy (Bloody Jack Adventures) (Audio CD)
This Audio CD is utterly fantastic!! I cannot rave about it enough. It is so good, that I am sitting here typing a recommendation, something I have never done for all the thousands of books I have purchased here.I had already read the novel, and two sequels. I love the books, and I love the character of Jacky Faber. Then, I got this audio book for Christmas as I had just gotten a job which required a 45 minute commute each way, so I thought this would help kill the time. Well, I love this story even more now, having heard Katherine Kellgren's wonderful reading. I swear, you'll think it is Jacky herself telling her story. This actress, and that's what she deserves to be called, really made this story come alive. If there are Oscar's for audio book narrator's, I hope she wins one! Do I sound like I'm gushing? Well, I am! Not only is this a wonderfully fun story for any age, but hearing it read by this incredibly talented woman truly takes it to the next level.

There are now 3 of the Jacky Faber books. I've read them all, and I've enjoyed every one of them (the 1st and 3rd more than the 2nd).What I like most about the books, besides the action, is the sheer joy and spunkiness of the main character, Jacky Faber. She gets into scrape after scrape, but always comes out on top. She's impulsive and careless, but wily and resourceful. And though she's definitely a fantasy creation, the naval adventure genre is full of fantasy creations (Horatio Hornblower being the most obvious example). So why not have a female one, for once? Read these books. You won't regret it!

The book story alone is fantastic, highly amusing and even thought-provoking with some of the things Jacky comes up with. Katherine Kellegreen however, makes it ten times more entertaining to listen to, the voices she makes are great, they vary so well that you're not really thinking it's one woman, but even without that her voice for Jacky alone is one of the most entertaining things I've listened to in a while. I think I'll continue the series with the audiobooks because of her.

I am not much of a book reviewer. Although I read about 100 books a year. I found the Bloody Jack series to be one of the most riviting and fun reads I've ever been graced with. Also if you listen to the audio version, Katherine Kellgren will also rivit you to your seat with her incredible range of voices and accents. She is by far one of the best voice's in the business. I cannot give this book enough thumbs up enthousiasm. I for one love it and Jacky too. Thank you L.A. Meyer for creating someone as messed up, advertures, and good loving as myself.

This review is from: Bloody Jack: Being An Account Of The Curious Adventures Of Mary Jacky Faber, Ship's Boy (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition) (Bloody Jack Adventures) (School & Library Binding)
This is a wonderfull book and the first of the Jacky Faber adventures it has a fabulous story line and it makes you laugh and just it brings joy when ever you read it. It has a very interesting main character with spunk and a wonderful persionality. This is a must rad.It is about a gilr that becomes homeless after her familey dies. She is picked up buy a gang and becomes friend but when the leader is murdered she cant take it any more and she cuts her head and becomes a ship's boy. She had to pretend to be a boy and has a very hard time doing so. It is a funny book and you become all of the characters friends it has such description and detail and emotion it is as if the charactor is actualy writing the book. There are two other book that I know of that follow this book The curse of the blue tatoo and Under the jolly rodger. also wonderful books.

(reviewed by Rachel)Bloody Jack is a fun, fast paced book that is perfect for people who love adventures on the sea, a dramatic main character who loves attention, and pirate battle scenes. what i really liked about this book was its style of writing. the story was of Jacky narrating her story, and it was written how she said things, which was like street slang. the way the sailors talked was also authentic, and i really enjoyed it. there was a lot of action, romance, and danger throughout the book and it is one of my favorite stories.

At first listen, Katherine Kellgren's narration of a rough voiced orphan girl with a thick accident takes a little getting used to. I honestly had to wonder if I would get into this...It did not take long to change my mind. Bloody Jack is an amazing story. Mary "Jacky" Faber tells her take of life on the streets to life on this ship in humorous detail. "He's got muscles like a horse and looks to have a brain to match" With a variety of voices, narrator Katherine Kellgren covers everyone from the Irish sailor Liam, a Jamaican seaman, creepy and sinister Jacob Sloat as well as the other ship boys, including Jamey, the one who has stolen Mary's heart - but he thinks she is just another ships boy. Before I was done with this audio I had already requested and received the next book in this series, as I wanted to know more about the adventures of Bloody Jack! Do not drag your feet like I did on this one, I highly recommend the audio version and sit back and enjoy a tale that I think will surprise you!

WOULD RATE IT 6.5 STAR one of the best stories I have ever listened to!!!,

It's 1797 in London, and little Mary Faber's family has just died of the plague. She leads a dangerous life just to survive by taking up with a gang of street urchins. When her closest friend in the gang is murdered she knows she has to leave. She disguises herself as a boy, changes her name to Jacky and signs on as a ship's boy on the HMS Dolphin. Life at sea is adventure indeed. Jacky gets herself out of one scrape after another. This story is suitable for 14 yr olds up to 80 year olds with a love a great adventure. I listened to this story on audio and the narrator did a brilliant job with the accents. I have also finished THE CURSE OF THE BLUE TATTOO by L A MEYER and really want to now buy the whole series!!!!! I tried contacting L A Meyer the author to complain that the no 4 book onwards is not available to us through audible in Australia due to copyright problems!!!! Grrrrrrr!!!! If L A Meyer reads this seriously you are missing out on a huge market by limiting it to the USA. Feel free to contact me through my profile page on Amazon. I can't recommend this story enough and it does deserve 6.5 stars not 5stars!!! The whole series should be made into a movie but of course with the actors getting older inbetween films they would have to be filmed close together.

I recomend this book highly but do not mistake it for a childrens book or one that boys would just love. It is more of a teenage girl book. I loved it and have read all the available jacky books out there!
