5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, Sexy, and not what you'd expect April 30, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Bloody Little Secrets is like Twilight... if Bella was a strong independent thinking vampire who could take care of herself and Edward was her loyal human boyfriend! There were so many things I loved about this book. Vicky's voice is strong and often her comments left me giggling. The love scenes were steamy, the action intense, and the story moved forward at a pleasing pace. It wasn't predictable but was close enough to reality to not be ridiculous. I think anyone who enjoys Vampire romance will love Bloody Little Secrets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review: Bloody Little Secrets by Karly Kirkpatrick October 10, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition

Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal

Short Synopsis: Vicky wakes up one night from her grave and finds out that she is a vampire. She decides to move to a new place and reinvent herself and find new friends. But things don't go so great for Vicky as the vampire who made her starts coming for her.

My Thoughts: I loved this novel! I kept wanting to find out all the crazy things that Vicky was getting into.

Vicky used to be an average girl. That is, until she wakes up one night and realizes that she's a vampire. As soon as she digs out of her grave, Vicky is confronted by another vampire waiting for her, wanting to take her back to her maker. Vicky manages to have him staked and is now on the run.
She decides to move to a new place to reinvent herself, and find new friends. As she struggles with her vampire urges, she meets a boy named Drake, and the two have an instant connection. Vicky decides to attend school and get to know Drake better.
But as soon as Vicky starts having a normal life again, vampires start turning up with orders to bring Vicky back to the vampire that made her. Can Vicky find out why this vampire is after her and keep her new friends safe?

A really entertaining read! Kirkpatrick mixes drama with hilarious scenes all rolled into one. I was captivated from the very beginning and wanted to find out more of Vicky's adventures. It was fun reading about what worked and didn't work in the vampire world. It's refreshing to read a heroine who isn't always perfect and struggles to come to terms with what she is. I loved reading the chemistry between Vicky and Drake. The only thing I found a bit problematic was how accepting everyone was with Vicky's situation, and how they weren't a bit more freaked out about what she was. The novel also ended in such a cliff hanger, I can't wait to read more! Be sure to add Bloody Little Secrets to your pile!

Would I recommend this book: Yes!

Rating: I give this book a 4.5/5.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading August 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I came across this book because the author was giving it away on her blog for one day. I took a chance and emailed Karly Kirkpatrick. I got the book and read it. I have read other free books that haven't been all that great. I like the author's writing.

I liked the fact that Vicky Hernandez is Latina. I haven't read too many books with Latinos in them. I like that she's the lead character and she has a good self-esteem. She's not a weak female character that needs protection like in other books. She's turned into a vampire and she can take care of herself. Vicky leaves the town she lived in because her parents had buried her. That's how the book opens, Vicky in her coffin. She moves away where she gazes into people's eyes and hypnotizes them so they will do what she wants and she put whatever she wants into their mind. In this new town she meets Drake, who of course she falls in love with but also wants to drink his blood. She does learn to control herself around him by drinking the blood she has in a cooler. Vicky shares her secret with Drake after an incident outside of his work. She does take a drink from Drake and then she supplies him with her blood because she leaves him weak. Drake had no problem sharing his blood with Vicky.

Vicky keeps getting attacked by vampires who are trying to take her back to the one who turned her. She has no idea why she was turned into a vampire. That's not something she learns till close to the end of the story. Drake and Monty have accidents while trying to help Vicky and they end up being turned into vampires. Vicky does make friends in the new town. She even hypnotizes a librarian and tells her she is her niece. The lady lets her stay with her and is clueless as to what Vicky is. The effects never really seem to wear off. People believe what Vicky says and it becomes part of their memory.

What I didn't like was that Vicky meets this couple in the beginning and she sucks them dry. Vicky tries to find out what happened to them but it's like they vanished into thin air and no one ever found out about them. Kids are being turned into vampires and no one seems to notice. Vicky drinks blood from blood bags like it's juice. I found that to be disturbing and disgusting. I get she's a vampire but I didn't need to be told Vicky was having her breakfast, lunch or dinner. I got that she was a vampire and needed to drink blood. My other problem was Vicky went to blood banks to get blook and after hypnitizing people no one seem to miss the bags of blood she took. Aside from that it's are really good book.

I like that Vicky is a female who can take care of herself even if she is lonely. She's the one that defends her boyfriend Drake. She's the one who turns him. This is better than Twilight in that Vicky is a strong female character. There is no whining about wanting to be turned by anyone in this story. When people are turned its done to try and "save" them in a way. I would definitely recommend this book. I think the book ends in a way where it doesn't really need a sequal.
