4.0 out of 5 stars Unleash the Beasts, April 14, 2004

This review is from: Bloody Roar Extreme (Video Game)
Bloody Roar Extreme for the XBOX is an excellent game, and it barely misses the mark for a perfect score. You fight on outdoor and indoor arenas some of them look very nice; they have an aquarium, aircraft carrier, urban slums, dojo and more. What really sets Bloody Roar Apart from conventional fighters is that each character can transform into some type of beast! While in "beast" form you take less damage and inflict more upon your rival and you can also execute super combo attacks. The graphics are beautiful, but the animation lacks fluidity. The most visually striking is the "Elephant", I love how the screen shakes when he walks, punches with his hooves and grapples with his trunk; it's amazing to see. The "lion" and "wolf" will slash with their claws and bite with their fangs- its so cool!
The sound effects are good and you'll enjoy the beasts sounds of lion roar, phoenix scream, bat squeek, elephant letting a good trumpet blow. This game is a lot of fun, but kinda short.

Pros:
+excellent controls
+excellent graphics
+multiplayer fun
+excellent gameplay
+good sound effects
+cool beasts modes
+cool arenas
+cool secrets
+instant replays
+fast loading game
+music can be turned off

Cons:
-disgusting music
-lacks intensity
-needs more characters
-needs more arenas
-needs more game modes

4.0 out of 5 stars Good 3D fighting game, June 12, 2003
This review is from: Bloody Roar Extreme (Video Game)
Blood Roar Extreme for the Xbox continue the series started on the Sony PlayStation, and do not disapoint. This game has the traditional Virtua Fighter button layout; there's a punch button, a kick button and a guard button, with the addition of the exclusive beast button, allowing the character to transform into an animal and perform beast attacks. Strangely enouth, you can't combine buttons for alternate attacks, but i think the beast attacks make up for that. The triggers allow the character sidestep left or right in the arena; although it may sound strange, works very well. The fighting engine don't have the depth of games like Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur, but there's some nice additions; for instance, pressing the guard button in the exact moment of an opponent attack will allow your character to perform an evade move. The graphics are good, expecially for the fighters, same goes for the sound, but don't expect Dead or Alive 3, Soul Calibur 2 quality (speaking of Soul Calibur 2, i have the Xbox japonese edition, and man, it's fantastic). Funny enough, Blood Roar Extreme, an enhanced port of a PlayStation 2 game (Blood Roar 3), is a far away satisfying fighting game than the Xbox exclusive Tao Feng. Like every other fighting game, it's much more fun to play against friends; in fact, the versus mode is where Blood Roar Extreme truly shines. If you're not expecting Soul Calibur 2, you will have fun. In the end, Blood Roar Extreme makes a nice addition to the already strong Xbox fighting game library.

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bloody Roar Extreme (Video Game)
This game is awesome one of my favorite fighting games. My top 3 fav fighting games are Tekken, DOA, and of course Bloody Roar. Wish there would have been more characters though. They could have made a Rhino, Gorilla, Snake, Dragon, anything needs lot's more characters seems like the same ones are in every game. Don't have a problems with nothin else though.
