5.0 out of 5 stars Bloom shows flowers in a new light., October 18, 2005
This review is from: Bloom (Hardcover)
I really didnt think any more could be said on the subject of flowers but this work really shines in the spirit of Bleckner and O'keffe. Whats extraordinary to me about these photos is that Solberg was able to capture some beautiful parallels between some of nature's smallest and most fragile creations to those that are vast and indestuctible-- namely Nebullas or deep space images, which is what the compositions remind me of. In short, an incredible effort by an photographer to keep your eye on.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's ALL about the flowers, October 27, 2005
By
This review is from: Bloom (Hardcover)
The rich simplicity of the photographs in this book allows the reader to appreciate the natural intricacy and complexity of each bloom. More than a modern take on the traditional botanical field guide, these photographs discover the sensuality of flowers that surrounds us. The composition of the shots range from stunning to whimsical - a real delight. This book fills a big spot on my Christmas shopping list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sumptuous!, January 13, 2006
This review is from: Bloom (Hardcover)
Paul Soberg has captured the richness and texture of his subjects so well that at times I felt they were finely illustrated water colored drawings - certainly no one can capture flowers as vividly as Mr. Soberg has managed to do! I am tempted to get a second copy for framing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take a deep breath., October 19, 2005
This review is from: Bloom (Hardcover)
There is a quiet and dynamic energy emanating from the pages of BLOOM. Paul Solberg has illuminated something beyond the surface with an intimacy that leaves me with a sense of peace

that only a realization of my connection to nature inspires.

Everyone should breathe it in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Natural Miracles, August 17, 2011
By
This review is from: Bloom (Hardcover)
Paul Solberg combines the delicacy of a Fabergé egg artist, the scientific mind of a botanist, and the eye and sensitivity of an artist and the result is this monograph on the unexplored beauties of flowers. As highly regarded fellow photographer Christopher Makos has stated, "Paul Solberg is the most modern photographer in America." Even turning the pages in this exquisite book, designed and produced with exceptional attention to detail and flow of subject matter, is a repeatable pleasure.

What Solberg does is dissect flowers ever so gently so that he may place separated petals on a flat surface beside the interior pistils and stamens, arranging them in a manner alternative to the way the flowers genetic code determines configuration and then provides lighting and camera technique so that each image is a near transparent view into the life of the bloom. At other times he merely adjust the blossoms in a variety of ways that resemble a painter's technique. The results are extraordinary, first because of the beauty of the image, but second because of the privilege of seeing the internal aspects of lowers as we have never seen them before. This is a book for admiration and meditation. Solberg has created something uniquely his and enlightened the viewer at the same time. Grady Harp, August 11
