4.0 out of 5 stars Brava, Ms. Ross
I'm a 56 year old man, just finished reading "Blow Me" by Lennie Ross, and loved it. You may think that "chick lit" is only for women, but men can learn a lot about women by reading that genre, especially from "Blow Me". There were many times that it made me laugh out loud, but also yell things like "Holy S..." (very embarrassing when reading in a restaurant)...

Like trying to make sense of cattle parts sliding out of a processing plant.

Just painfully bad.

If you're going to read it for some unfathomable reason, order a good classic book to read immediately afterward...as an antidote.

Or at least get some Dramamine to help with the dry heaves you'll experience.

I'm a 56 year old man, just finished reading "Blow Me" by Lennie Ross, and loved it. You may think that "chick lit" is only for women, but men can learn a lot about women by reading that genre, especially from "Blow Me". There were many times that it made me laugh out loud, but also yell things like "Holy S..." (very embarrassing when reading in a restaurant)!

"Blow Me" is set in Los Angeles, where everyone has a title of Actor/Waitress, Actor/Plumber, Actor/Real Estate Agent, or similar. The three main characters, Skye, Dawn, and Chloe, are all in their late 30s (or so they say), dressing like they're in their late 20s, and are all looking for Mr. Right, but having little luck.

Between Dawn's Jewish mother butting into her dating business, Skye's apartment fire at the most inopportune time, and Chloe's attemps to latch onto any single man she meets, there's plenty of action. The ladies each flit around on their own separate adventures, but those adventures intertwine at some of the oddest times, with the ladies growing up a bit more each time.

Ms. Ross provides excellent character development, interesting twists and turns, and with chapter titles like "I'll Be Auditioning for the Role of Wife", "Look What the Yenta Dragged in", "Dinner Doesn't Equal Sex - Lunch Does", and my favorite "Three Cougars Walk into a Bar", you're in for a treat. Speaking of treats, there's even a "free sample" route through Beverly Hills included for no extra charge.

I had a blast reading "Blow Me", and I look forward to the movie version, as long as Ms. Ross writes the screenplay.

I LOVED this book. I mostly read murder mysteries or thrillers and take a break with chick-lit... this book was such an entertaining read, I wish she had another in the series that I could download today! The characters are well developed and you feel like you know them by the time you are half way through the book. It's not super predictable, like most chick-lit... it's an engaging, funny, well written, current, great book! I highly recommend this book to anyone... young or older. Great book!! I'm telling all my friends about it... if they haven't read it already! Thanks, Lennie Ross - looking forward to your next novel!!

5.0 out of 5 stars BLOW ME, October 2, 2011
This review is from: Blow Me (Paperback)
Here is a guy's perspective. As a long time LA resident and insider, Blow Me is exactly what LA and the Westside lifestyle represents. The message is clear as are the characters, Skylar, Dawn, and Chloe! I know these girls, ok not exactly these women but close facsimiles. The novel is spot on and a good ride for a Chic-Lit novel. The book is wonderful and an good read. It leads you down the clear path of what it's like to be in LA. I know the places in the novel and the ups and downs of the near famous. It could represent a cast of characters not just of the novel but all want-to-be's in So. Cal.. I love this novel and the way it is told. You are there!! Poignant !!!! This is a definite must read for anyone who loves how people interact. A thumbs way up to Lennie Ross !!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fresh, provacative and sexy, September 9, 2011
This review is from: Blow Me (Paperback)
Shopping trips in Paris, dating in LA, dining in Italy and even a prince; Blow Me has it all. I enjoy reading novels where I can escape into another world that is nothing like my own and Blow Me offers just that. With a provocative and edgy title `Blow Me' I just knew that I had to get me teeth into this stunning novel.

Blow Me focuses around Skylar, Dawn and Chloe, all single, close to forty and acting much younger. Each woman is desperate to figure their lives out and gain a sense of stability. Skylar is a executive assistant who ends up losing her job and burning down her apartment after a wild night. Dawn is a matchmaker who is trying to slow down the aging process by freezing her embryos. Lastly Chloe is a struggling actress who is struggling to get a Green Cards. All of these women's lives are in chaos and their hope is to be rescued through marrying a rich man. Set in the shallow world of LA, this provocative novel is set in the style of Sex and the City and humour sly looks at aging, dating and being forty.

Lennie Ross manages to tell an entertaining story with lots of personality while giving us a very honest look into the dating lives of single women in their forties. I really enjoyed the way in which Lennie added unique humour into the storyline, which made Blow Me even more engaging. One particular moment I laughed out loud at was, "There has been a women at the open house with a a very large handbag that Skye found suspicious. Skye wondered if she could have stolen the frickin cat". I also really enjoyed the way in which Lennie keeps this light tone while dealing with emotional issues such as infertility and dating in an age obsessed LA. In terms of the characters I found Skye to be hilarious, however she is very self-centred, which makes it a little hard to find her likeable. Lennie does a great of creating a character is Chloe who readers are not supposed to like but who provides great entertainment throughout the novel. My favourite character has to be Dawn. I found her emotional moments within the novel to be moving and even though she enjoys living the glamorous life, she is the most down to earth of all the three girls. Many writers have done the topic of single women in their forties many times before, however I felt that Lennie was able to put a unique spin on the story making it seem fresh and new. Lennie also really brought the setting of LA to life and it really opened my eyes to how judgmental and cruel LA can be at times.

In terms of what I didn't enjoy about the novel? Well I found that the characters became a little annoying at times. They readily sleep about and are very focused on wealth and material things. I also found them to be a little immature at times, and felt that I was reading about women much younger. I would also warn readers that this novel is a little provocative with some raunchy sex scenes.

Overall I really enjoyed reading Blow Me. Lennie Ross successfully took a theme we all love and made it unique and fresh. This novel is a fun read, and it is entertaining to see the more unglamorous side of LA. Blow Me is like Sex and the City set in LA. If you love your chick lit with a focus on escaping into another life then I'm sure you will love Blow Me. I cannot wait to read more from Lennie Ross in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Beach Read, August 31, 2011

Well, the gal can write. The author's screenwriting experience shows, the plot moves in a way one can easily see it in the mind's eye as a fun romp of a movie. Being a resident of LA, and a guy, I can attest that Ms. Ross gets it all right... this is the LA dating scene, admittedly with a bittersweet romance that rarely happens in real life built in to it. I have recommended this book to several of my women friends and they all have thanked me for the enjoyable read, a great `beach book' for sure and well worth the price for the entertainment it provides.

The ultimate compliment -- I was really sorry to finish the book as I was so enjoying being smack in the middle of these girls' lives. The characters were great and beautifully realized. I truly cared about them and felt like I came to actually know them. Living in LA, I've met a lot of Skyes, Dawns and Chloes and relished the opportunity to see their lives from their own intimate points of view, rather than my own.

5.0 out of 5 stars A stylish hit!, August 10, 2011

Let me just say, Lennie Ross, you wrote one entertaining book!! I was fascinated with the lives of Skylar, Dawn, and Chloe. Set in the glitzy setting of Los Angeles, three very different women have forged a life for themselves and a tight friendship.

Lennie's debut novel is full of heart and fun characters. The supporting cast is made up of some incredible men, some downright sleazy men, a mother that makes you want to yell at her in Dawn's defense, and a couple of cute kitties. If you've been to LA, you can envision clearly a lot of the places that are described, which helps bring it to life. I have to agree that if you love "Sex and the City", you are going to enjoy "Blow Me", a great debut from Lennie Ross.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blow Me, August 2, 2011
This review is from: Blow Me (Kindle Edition)
Lennie Ross is currently on tour with CLP Blog Tours and her novel Blow Me. This story follows three "friends" living in the very different world we call LA. Skylar works lazily as an executive assistant, not taking her job seriously until she is fired, burns down her apartment in the middle of foreplay, and is now living out of her car. Dawn is more practical, but doesn't enjoy her job working as a matchmaker, setting up wealthy older men with young beautiful woman. She also feels her biological clock ticking, and decides to go through the process to freeze her eggs- right when she possibly meets Mr. Right. And Chloe is a wannabee actress, also working as a real estate agent, but has never sold a house nor gotten a role, and is on the verge of being detained if she can't get her Green Card. All three women are in close to forty, lying about their ages, hoping for a better life, and waiting for a man to help them fix it. But can they figure out what they really want before it's too late? And how do friendships survive in the land of frenemies and backstabbers, where jealousy reigns supreme?

I live in Iowa, and let me tell you- Blow Me really opened my eyes to what LA can be like for some people. Each character had a unique story and personality, and Ross writes with engaging humor that kept me focused on the plot. Skylar and Dawn take over in the middle, with Chloe kind of fading away, but Chloe's reappearance at the end of the novel is hilarious and a nice way to tie up her story. Between Skylar and Dawn, I enjoyed reading about Dawn more because she seemed more down to earth and prepared about handling her own life. Skylar seemed to be just waiting for a hand out, but in the end she learns how to find her passion and that made for a great ending. The suspense lagged a little in the middle, but the humorous scenes made up for that and kept me entertained. I would warn readers that this is a pretty provocative novel, so keep that in mind if you enjoy more cookie-cutter reads. I hope Lennie Ross has another book for us soon, because I really enjoyed her writing style and I'm sure all the stories she has from living in Los Angeles will make more great characters!
