Blow is # 1,
By Jerry Clark "Mouse" (Nashville, Tennessee United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blow (Audio CD)
This week "Blow" is the most requested cd on my radio show(Mellow Madness). It has been sometime that I have heard funky sounds like that (compared to Tom Browne, Benard Wright and Don Blackman). The selection with the Will Downing vocal have the ladies calling the request line. This cd is a keeper. Jerry "the Mouse" Clark WFSK 88.1FM -Fisk University Radio Nashville, Tenn

Straight no chaser!!!,
By Mureed Bakari "Mureed's Flava" (Hartford, Ct.) - See all my reviews

This cd can only be defined as an exceptional piece of work. From the opening intro to the last song this cd is great for whatever mood you are in. TO all inspiring musicians and veterans of the game... this is how you produce great music. Marcus miller is on a whole different level playing most of the live instruments, yes live instruments himself. Unlike a lot of todays artists playing along to studio produced tracks. Marcus adds his flava to the richness of patches's horn as he manuevers his bass to chill in the background while patches does his thing. This is good music damn!!!

This CD is bangin' from front to back. You hear the Marcus Miller influence immediatley which is a good thing. One thing that stands out about the CD besides the outstanding music is that this is one of the best sounding CD's I own. If you're looking for a great sounding funky/jazz CD to jam to this is it. Can't wait for his next release!!

His new album is great but took a long time to appear in the states. I've been listening to this constantly since I picked it up in japan back in late 2003. My favorites are Bed Time Story, Don't you know and Cruisin'.

Patches another miles in the making,

Listening to Patches you can hear the funk back into Jazz courtesy his long time partner Marcus Miller. This duo spells pure pleasure from the start of the cd to the very end you'll find a combination of smooth, funk and romantic jazz, skillfuly packaged for the sophicated cocktail party to the quiet cozy corners of your heart. If you want straight-on tenor trumpet with the groovie backgroud, say no more his style of Jazz is next to none. A bit of Patches goes a long way!!
