This group is set to 'BLOW UP',
By vida (nueva york) - See all my reviews

Debut album from this Colombian outfit made up of Li Saumet [firey fierce vocalist] and Simon Mejia [bassist, composer] - Blow Up is a confident debut from this group who have created some buzz on their recent trips to SXSW and the LAMC in 2009. Even the NY Times took notice last week, calling the group's live show, "...kaleidoscopic and danceable, mingling the clip-clop bounce of cumbia and another Colombian rhythm, champeta, with echoey guitar, reggae backbeats and the singing and rapping of Liliana Saumet". Blow Up, only 44 minutes, packs in the all the energy and bite the band represents. Favorite tracks: 'Juana', 'Fuego' [obvious single] and 'Cosita Rica'.

I'm Colombian and discovered Bomba Estereo in my last visit, since that moment I've seen how this group is made of great musicians that create a fantastic mix between traditional Colombian rhythms with electro sounds, hip-hop and reggae. I see a very promising future in the Latin Music scenario for Bomba Estereo. When I first hear the first single of this album - fuego. I didn't hesitate to go and buy the album.

Saw them at SXSW in Austin, TX last night and was absolutely blown away. I'd been listening to the track Cosita Rica for a few days and really getting into it but was just floored by how they kept the energy level so high the whole show. Can't wait to see them again. Makes me wanna go to Colombia.

I can't stop praising enough every single song of this overwhelmingly energetic album!
If you yearn for exuberantly exotic rhythms and vocals, you are going to be totally blown away with this CD. Technical reviews don't matter that much for this almbum, just start to listen to any song and you will be absolutely hooked with few possibilities of release. Hearing Li Saumet sing is without any doubt the best replacement for any drug against depression.

Bomba Estereo...riding with nueva cumbia wave.,

Although Colombia has a long and proud association with the various latin music forms currently labelled salsa, Colombia's truest claim to fame is the cumbia. Bomba Estereo are part of a new wave of young dynamic Colombian bands like Systema Solar and Monareta reinventing cumbia for the dancefloor. Unlike reggaeton which seems to have absorbed all the worst aspects (bling and braggadocio) of hip hop culture, the nueva cumbia crowd seem to be about straightforward partying. Cumbia has also taken off in Argentina although they seem to be concentrating on a very electronic sound veering towards dubstep at times. For my part I still prefer the more organic Colombian sound with it's feet still firmly in it's cumbia and vallenato roots. For the pure party vibe check 'Fuego'!

I heard the track Fuego on the local university radio station and immediately ordered the album. This is a great example of Latin beat with a modern sound.

I also don't speak Spanish (yet) but I just love listening to this CD. The lyrical rhythms and beats really make this band. they have great videos on youtube.
